Good Points

I really can't think of many, though some of the independent garage mechanics that have been sent to help have been pleasant enough.


Bad Points

Take money for Euro cover when not asked for.
Cannot reply to complaints made; only send general letters in return.
Cancel insurance without notifying the customer, and then have the cheek to demand an extra payment as there is no insurance.
Waiting time really varied, and no consideration of women alone.


General Comments

I joined Green Flag some ten years ago. When this company became Direct Line, the trouble started. They took money for Euro cover, and have never addressed this problem by having the courtesy to explain why, though they sent a cheque for something under the amount owed. I am about to follow this up.

I once waited three hours plus for help in East London. All I needed was a jump start.

Today, with a flat tyre, I phoned and was told that I no longer had cover. When I asked why not, as they had always taken it by direct debit, I was asked to phone another number. I did so, and was passed to the manager. He informed me that I had not renewed my cover, so I would be charged for new membership, plus nearly £40 for the flat tyre. Although I made it clear that I paid by direct debit, and that it should have been automatic payment, and that I had not received any request to renew, this broke no ice. Needless to say, I turned down the offer to renew, and am about to write a letter of complaint to them.

I've noticed several companies such as Tesco are affiliated in some way to Green Flag, and therefore Direct Line, and am doing my best to avoid them if I can.
