Good Points

Location. Great if you want romantic, secluded, quiet area, small beach ideal for a quick dip and/or sunbathing, few shops, couple of restaurants.

Bad Points

Location. Not so great if you want lots of beach to sit on, sea to swim in, lively area, tacky shops, British pubs/bars, noisy.

General Comments

My friend and I have just spent a really pleasant week at the Hotel President in Aucanada, our first visit to Majorca. We arrived at 5 am, the staff were very friendly and pleasant, even at that time of day. The rooms were basic but comfortable and the maid service excellent, with a change of linen and towels mid-week. The hotel itself is clean and efficiently run. The reception staff were very helpful and knowledgeable about places to visit. The dining room/bar staff were also friendly and very efficient. There was always plenty of food provided, although we found it a little bland for our taste and, despite being "all inclusive", we chose to dine out a couple of nights, once in Alcudia and, on the last evening, at the restaurant across the road from the hotel (La Terrassa) which was absolutely fantastic, both for the food, the view and the service.

The only criticism of the hotel we would make is the fact that the public areas (except the dining room) were very smoky which made sitting in the bar and reception rather uncomfortable for two non-smokers.

We booked a car for four days before travelling to Majorca and made excellent use of it by driving inland and to other coastal areas. Valdemossa and Pollenca were highlights and are definitely worth a visit. The drive to the headland at Formentor is also well worthwhile, although the very windy and narrow road needs to be treated with great respect!

We didn't sit around the pool so can't comment on that aspect of the hotel facilities. We did have a few hours on the beach on our first day and would agree with the comments made by other reviewers that there is a shortage of sun loungers. However, this would probably have been avoided if people had been willing to relinquish their loungers for the hours they went back to the hotel to eat/sleep and reclaim them on their return. Rather selfish.

All in all, we had a very enjoyable week in Majorca and the Hotel President. However, be advised that Aucanada is at the end of a headland and, as such, is rather remote. Do consider booking car hire before you go if you want to be independent and not have to rely on the local public bus service (which stops its service to Aucanada at 6.45 pm). I'm not sure about the free bus service that the hotel offers but would guess it runs until later in the evening.
