This kit is fantastic, especially when moving up from a starter kit. The ball and socket tom brackets mean you can position the kit exactly how you want with ease and stability. Yamaha's lug design etc... is of an extremely high standard. it's hard wearing, loud, and sounds great, and it doesn't give your wallet a kicking as much as a pearl kit of the same quality might do.
There isn't much ressonance to speak of etc... but if you want it to sound rally good, you'll have to get some high quality cymbals. Zildjian ZBT range is always good, as they are not too expensive, but still sound good.
The Yamaha 5 Piece Drum Kit is top of the line without the high price tag. Yamaha have put all their technical clout into this one, so it has the feel of a kit at twice the price. If you move to this from a starter kit, then you'll be ecstatic at the difference. The lug designs and "free-floating" tom brackets mean the ressonance is kept to a minimum. It comes with Remo heads (never a bad thing), and has a real quality feel to it, and it sounds great, especially the snare which is nothing short of excellent. Tightening and loosening the snares puts some snare out of tune, but you have real versatility when it comes to tuning the kit. This is why I give it a very high rating, as I have never been happier drumming than I am now.
