Designers, Surveyors, Field Managers, a whole team of Product Delivery Schedulers, it goes on and on, and they're there just for me (you too) once I signed up for a new bathroom.
None really, scary forking out £6.5K for a loo, lovely as it is, but if I paid that for a run-about, it'd be worth £4K the moment I left the forecourt. At least as part of the house it will be more of an asset as part of the building.!!
Dolphin Bathrooms have great looking showrooms, (did you see the stand at NEC 2005) but what else would you expect from an upper-end of the market company.
Being self employed people, life is too busy, too often, for my other half & I ( she's a childminder, I'm a handyman doing all sorts of 'd.i.y.' work, plumbing, painting, smaller tiling work, etc) so when someone takes on the Project Management side of it all for me, I expect to pay a bit more by way of a premium for that service.
I had costed it out to do a lot of the prep work myself (tearing out process) on evenings & weekends with gear from B&Q and Wholesale Domestics, Hillington. Both of them offering some good bits of kit too.
By the time I added it all up, allowing my own time, the number of hours it was going to take, and the loss of my free time, I came to approx £4,900 / £5,300.
I'd still need to organise getting the waste away, the new materials delivered/stored safely, getting a plasterer & tiler when I needed them as my pet project progresses, any specialsit tooling for this size of job, etc, I decided to see what I could get from one of the "better companies" out there as opposed to one of the small local firms who often tries to juggle 2 or 3 jobs at once, what a shock I got.
OK so the price was £7.2K, there, I said it. Just like that. I thought it would be more !!
It's a funnier thing tho', when the salesman told me about their finance deal and knocked 10% off the final 'cash' price (presumably 'subsidised' by First National looking for my future custom ) I didn't think any further about drawing on the equity, adding it onto my mortgage.
I think that if they (Dolphin) were an unscrupulous company, GE Banks probably wouldn't have created a finance package leaving them jointly liable for the products. I would imagine somebody at GE would have done a bit more than a walk-through audit on Dolphin before signing up with them.
Anyway, I get time with my family, don't fall out with my other half, to me, that's worth the extra £1200 for someone to do it all for me. (that's about the cost of a break at Centre Parcs)
As a P.S. on this, I was pleased to read the comments on one of your other reviews, and was amazed that someone who wrote in actually wrote back in a second time came out praising Dolphin. Everyone makes mistakes, but to me, it's what they do to put it right is a measure of a good company/business. Writing that 2nd update took great courage, as I don't think many other people would have done the same. The lesson is to use proper channels I suppose.(it's like a bad meal in a restaurant, if you don't tell them they can't fix it, no use just moaning about it afterwards)
Still, you DO get what you pay for, less than £200 for a full bath room suite on a pallet ??? Empor Caveat, hope my Latin's ok,
I don't mean to criticise, just an observation that I keep wondering if any of the other 'anonymous' reviewers really did buy anything, one or two read like competition getting beat for work. I'm only a little fish in a big pond, but in my opinion, Dolphin ain't sharks, gettit ?
