Big, glossy, great author interviews, recommendations, large excerpts from featured books, and the opportunity to claim a free book with each issues.
Leans a little towards women readers and reading groups, but still does enough to entertain both sexes and none reading group types.
I was sent a free copy of the Newbooks magazine out of the blue through the post. I had been searching for a magazine like this since INK magazine went bust. I find it informative, easy to read, good to look at, and not too badly priced. It comes out ever two months, and each issues features 5 books with a large excerpt from each. If you like any of the featured books you can write in and request a copy for £2.95 to cover the postage. The problem with this is that I now have an ever-growing pile of books to read, and it's getting out of control. The only problem with this mag is that it does lean more towards women than men, and so most of the books are of a similar ilk. The new revamped version is still quite young, and they have just done a subscriber survey on this very thing, so this may improve with time. I would however still recommend this to anyone who enjoys reading for fun, as it's mostly fiction, and you are unlikely to find reviewed tiles such as 'Astrophysics for dummies' and the such like.
