Good Points

Small. Well built. Exceptional good looks. Every feature you could want in a mobile.

Bad Points

Battery life. Alarm. Software.

General Comments

The Samsung Z500 could have been an outstanding phone.
The screen(s), camera, and video are superb, and it has brilliant features.

Bluetooth
Infrared
USB cable and software supplied
3G
Media player
Expandable memory etc...

It is badly let down by the very poor battery life, which makes all of this virtually unusable. I did charge it for 16 hrs before the first use, just as I did with the replacement that Vodaphone sent me.

The alarm, which is of major importance to me, is also very temperamental, and only occasionally works. Unfortunately it never works while recharging the battery.

Finally, the PC Suite software supplied by Samsung is very basic! Samsung, please take a look at the Nokia and Motorola software to see how it should be done!!

Overall, I have to say that the Z500 could have been a phone I would have recommended to anyone, but once you get over the initial impact of its good looks and very good range of features, it will leave you feeling disappointed.

change network setting mode to gsm 900/1800 instead of automatic. This cuts the 3g part, which doesnt work in many places anyway. the battery life is no problem after this. The reason it drains so much is because it struggles to find 3g network and boost its receiver. Once 3g is up and running all over , late next year i would expect, the battery will be fine when on 3g.
rubbish ring volume though, even when on outside setting.

Thanks for the advice - changed settings, charged battery still got full battery after 3 days - brilliant!
For anyone wanting to download mp3 to phone it doesn't work. You have to convert them to mp4 format first. This is easy enough for anyone who has Nero 6, just start Nero Startsmart and under 'AUDIO' select encode audio files then save as .mp4. These should then download with Samsung's woeful PC Suite.
