I Heart Huckabees is a film which almost defies description. It is about an existential detective agency run by husband and wife Bernard (Dustin Hoffman) and Vivian (Lily Tomlin,) whose job is to investigate their clients lives while teaching them about the role of choice and connection in the universe, in the hope of solving their existential crises. Environmentalist Albert (Jason Schwartzman) approaches them to help explain a series of coincidences, but ends up finding out his problem is tied to his relationship with fast talking businessman Brad (Jude Law). With the help of another lost soul, Tommy (Mark Wahlberg) and the philosophical opposite to Bernard and Vivian, he solves his own existential crisis and brings about a philosophical rethink by the detectives.
It's a bit weird and often makes very little sense at all, but if you've ever read any existential (there is no such thing as fate, we decide everything that happens, we are all alone and left to our own devices in the universe, etc.) literature you may get some of the jokes. Even so, it's kind of zany and a bit amusing, and, how often do you get to see Jude Law looking stupid and crying?
