General Comments

The Cure Disintegration, nearly twelve years old now, and still around to let loose its dark, mournful but meaningful music. There is melancholy in the vocals and sorrow in the rhythm. This album has indeed scraped the depths of goth; the persistent, slow drum beats, the eerie keyboard patterns, the innocent droning of the organ, and the slightly more upbeat guitar. Slurred together, along with the most poetic of Smith's deep, intimate lyrics.
Once again his obsession about love, passion, and madness strides forth. So extravagantly emotional, I'm sure it associates to many in a sentimental being. With it's lengthy introductions of instruments, some what cohered together in an ear-catching fashion, each song is presented with utmost care and devotedness. One can only sit back, relax and be in a state of perfect contentment, as this heavenly potion, quite ironically cures you.
I would not recommend it to a slight Cure fan, who would probably own a copy of Greatest Hits, but to a more knowledgeable fan. However, for a lover of this goth-like music; this album is needed for your collection. With such tracks as 'Closedown' and 'Fascination Street', this album knows where it stands in the more sombre-like competition. Which of course is no competition, with this wizard of an album. Alongside its depth of gloom, 'Love Song' seems to be slightly more chirpy, acting as the spice of the album. I'm immensely pleased to be able to say that this album was a credit to The Cure's outstanding career. Somehow only one song got onto the Greatest Hits compilation. Although, if it was marketed at the some what casual fans, then I can see why. After one drop of listening, you are indeed at the album's feet and begging for more. When the last song is completed 'Untitled', which is my personal favourite on Disintegration, a sense of warmth and satisfaction is buzzed through your stony body. A feeling which cannot be fully described in words, but only by listening to the gold, which it is.
