Good Points

Good size, but larger than the DV4000. Great for 'not too serious' footage. Takes AA batteries so you can replace them pretty much anywhere, without the need for a power supply.

Bad Points

Battery life VERY poor. Quality not too good when viewed through any screen other than that on the device.

General Comments

I bought the Mustek DV5000 digital Camcorder after a family member got on so well with their DV4000. Because it is so small you can take it anywhere, and as a result you get great footage which is a little less staged, and you can have it with you at times that you would not usually be able to take a large camcorder, which can be a real bonus. This all makes for some grand footage and good memories. However, the picture quality, when connected to view through the TV was very poor. It was jerky and slightly out of focus. The picture taking function isn't the best, but fine if you just want pictures in a conventional sense. The power source is not a rechargeable battery, but AA batteries. This is good in situations when the camera runs low because you don't have to be near to an electrical source to recharge it, but the battery life is pretty poor. I have manged to get about 20 minutes use out of each set of AA batteries (and these were not cheap ones, but the Duracell ones that are specifically for these types of devices). I got through a lot of batteries when I was away for a weekend at a wedding. Basically, it's a great camera as a Christmas present for teenage kids, they'll love it, but not really worth wasting your money on if you want a quality item.
