- Ahead of its time, both music & lyrics
- MC Kool Keith kicks some of the best & most creative (and sometimes very weird) lyrics of 80's Hiphop
- Production by Ced Gee is incredible. Especially the uptempo joints (the bigger part of the tracks) are some of the fattest beats in 80's Hiphop.
- Standout tracks: Ego trippin', Ease back, Funky, Give the drummer some (personal favorite).
- Highly recommended to lovers of oldskool hiphop party music
- Definitely not everyones musical taste
- Music quality lacks sometimes
Ultramagnetic MC's, Critical Beatdown one of the top 10 hiphop albums of the 80's, but it never really entered the Billboard charts. Has nothing to do with the musical & lyrical content of the album, because only a few rap records are better than this one. Critical Beatdown was simply too creative and ahead of the time, so it never got popular. But it even influenced the English techno-combo "The Prodigy" in their music (don't get me wrong, "Critical Beatdown" is real rap music).
If you are a hip hop enjoyer (with an open ear for every kind of hip hop music) who feels oldskool hip hop you shoul give the Ultramagnetic MC's a listen, rap was magic back in 1988.
