General Comments

The Les Orangers Beach Resort Hotel, in Hammamet, Tunisia, was not all it was advertised to be in several holiday company brochures. On arrival at 03:30, there were no refreshments, I didn't expect alcohol just a refreshing drink after a 2 hour journey from the airport on a hot humid bus, even water would have been nice.
On eventual allocation to our room, we were shocked to find it was far short of the 3 star accommodation we were told of (the reception told us it was 4 star!). The first room was small and cramped, with a rickety old tatty bunk bed squeezed in, that looked like it was about to collapse. The welcome bowl of fruit was rotten, the shower was not attached to the wall, also the electric socket in the bathroom was hanging out exposing wires. There was no double bed, and we were told there would be. Just two single beds with 2 soiled mattress's. There weren't even handles on the wardrobes.
We were told we would be moved the following morning. It was 2 1/2 days before we were moved. We eventually found the rep. who was only interested in selling her excursions (commission based), and who did very little to help anybody. We were not the only family aggrieved, 3 others on the same flight that we knew, in fact everybody we spoke to at the hotel, were not impressed by the standard of rooms, or the service.
The facilities did not warrant 3 star! The outdoor pool was old and in need of refurbishment. An underwater light was floating, attached to its electric wire, in the pool for 3 days. Multiple cracks in and around the masonry, crumbling in some areas. The poolside toilets were disgusting, and rarely flushed. No milkshakes and pancakes as advertised, served by the pool for the children.
The gym consisted of a few loose weights, a running machine, and again they had stood the test of time. The indoor pool was filthy, and my children contracted conjunctivitis. I have to put this down to the pool, as other children swimming in it the same day, also contracted it.
The hotel reception toilets ran out of toilet paper, and we were told "Too many people are using the toilet, and we have run out of paper. Use the toilet in your room"!
In our second room, we also had loose shower fittings and electric sockets. The air conditioning had clogged filters, resulting in sore throats until midday. There was a cracked wash basin with no plug, and damp rotten door frames. All of this was reported to reception and the rep. Neither of whom were interested.
A group of us tried to talk to the manager, who just shook his hand at us, and walked away.
In a nut shell, this hotel has so much potential, if only it would put some of the almost £3,000 per family, back into keeping the place up to an acceptable standard. It had the best beach location, and a good entertainment team, but that was all.
