Good Points

Delivered exactly what was promised. Clean, friendly, family, 5* resort with everything laid on.

Bad Points

The beds were too hard for my taste.

General Comments

Between booking and travelling, we came across Lynds' review on the Rodos Maris Hotel and were very worried. We gathered as much information as we could, contacted the hotel directly and decided to go ahead. We are glad that we did.

We to have travelled extensively and stayed in every type of accomodation including some of the finest hotels in the world.

The Rodos Maris isn't one of them but it doesn't pretend to be. It is a good quality, family holiday resort catering to an international clientele.

We found the staff to be friendly and efficient and they dealt with all of our requests/ requirements well. The Rodos Maris is certainly far better than the average package holiday hotel.

There are obvious compromises made to cater for around 1000+ people at the height of the summer season. The hotel was totally full and hence those who had booked 4 people into one room were in some case given 'put me up' type beds. It became difficult for some to arrange late check outs, again because the whole place was at capacity.

The biggest downside to this was in the main buffet dining area where peak mealtimes were verging on zoo-like. However the food was of a good standard although sometimes seemed to lack variety. Both are simply side effects of the scale of the place I guess.

There is a second smaller restarant that is far more civilised but you will need to book via reception a day in advance.

The room was well serviced and the (albeit limited) minibar was stocked exactly as promised.

My wife used the spa on our final day and commented very positively on the overall experience although the actual treatment was rated as average.

What was clear on site was that those of us that had booked via Lastminute.com/ Medhotels etc were deemed to be independent travellers and not 'packaged' as such. If you are going to this hotel in the same situation make the effort to email the hotel directly too. Make any requests/ requirements clear in advance (such as real beds etc)

We did this and not only were our expectations met, we were given a two room suite (rather than the two rooms that we'd booked) to cater for us and our two young children.

The hotel is about an hour by taxi from the Airport (cost c, 40 Euro) - if you can, pre-book this transfer/ cab. We had hassle getting a cab from the airport because all of the pre-bookers were taken first.
