Cool Furniture.
Stores too crowded and layout is poor.
This is the email that I sent to the Ikea Contact Us (customer_care@ushelp.ikea.com) on their website...
I visited your Bloomington MN store (7 hours away from my home), and found an Ethel Rund shower curtain that I fell in love with. The store was out of the product at the time, and the sales woman told us to check to see if it was in the catalog, because then we could go ahead and order it when we got home. I found that it was in the catalog and purchased additional items to redecorate my bathroom based around that shower curtain, including bath mats, prints, and various other accessories. I just called Ikea to order the item as well as $1,455.00 worth of additional items from the catalog, and the woman I spoke with told me that I was not able to order the original shower curtain item because it was not available via a catalog order. She stated that I needed to wait until the order came in, and drive to an Ikea to purchase it.
I am so upset that I purchased several items from your company, only to find out that the item that I orginally wanted isn't even available to purchase via the way I was told to purchase it by one of your salespeople. I now have an orange and tan bath mat that I can not use, along with other accessories that would have matched.
I am confused as to why a retail store would spend money to print a catalog, only to find out that it is a marketing tool, and that not all products are available for purchase in a convenient or reasonable way.
Your salespeople are not well educated on protocol or customer service, otherwise I would have not purchased items that matched an item that I can't even purchase at this time.
I will be driving through Chicago next weekend and look forward to driving to the Ikea in Shaumburg, IL to return these previously purchased items.
I also plan to discuss my experience with as many people as possible, and to spend my money at alternative retail stores that actually do produce catalogs for the purpose that they are intended for. As far as I can tell, the catalog does not mention that it is purely a marketing tool, or that all items are not available for purchase, instead it states to simply browse through the catalog or online, make a list, and then place your order... it should state...
"Simply browse, make a list, and then when you call it may not be available, and you can ONLY get it IF it is available at a location near you, otherwise too bad, you won't get one. Please understand that not all of our salespeople know this, so if you plan to order something, understand that you are taking a chance with our company."
I realize that I am only one customer, and that my choices will not have a negative impact on your annual sales, but I did want to thank you for making a very easy decision for a new customer to never purchase from Ikea again.
