General Comments
Ultimate Fast Food is only one in a series of Juice Master Books by Jason Vale. I came by this book by way of a voucher included with my purchase of a Moulinex JuiceMaster Duo. The voucher was for: "The Juice Master's Ultimate Fast Food" - subtitled Discover the Power of Raw Juice - free except for £2 postage and packing. As, having checked, I found the book to be priced at £8.99, I thought this was quite a good offer. Not having come across any of the Juice Master Books previously, I was under the impression that it would be the usual type of juicer/recipe book. I was certainly NOT expecting the type of book that arrived a few days later. Now I'm not going to tell you that it's not a juicer/recipe book - but it is SO much more than that - and once I started reading it I found it very difficult to put down, in fact, I was hooked from the very first paragraph. I shall give you a brief quote as a sample of Jason Vale's humour, this is how he starts the book: "Yes indeedy fast food is without question the key to vibrant health, a slim trim bod, clear skin, longevity and tremendous amounts of energy. Now before you decide that I am clearly a few strawberries short of a full basket and talking complete hogwash, hear me out. I can guarantee that what I think of as fast food is a completely different ball game from what you're thinking of (unless you've read Slim 4 Life of course)." As I said - not QUITE what I was expecting! There have been several moments when I have laughed aloud, and been relieved that I no longer do most of my reading on commuter trains. Laughing aloud at what clearly appears to be a cookery book can get you some very funny looks! Jason Vale - The Juice Master - is a health coach and has been described as "a mix between Anthony Robbins, Jamie Oliver and Eddie Izzard". He quotes his CV as being: "WAS - overweight, extremely unhealthy (severe asthma, eczema, covered from head to toe in psoriasis), lacking in energy, and eating a diet that consisted of anything providing it wasn't green of course! NOW - asthma-free, eczema-free. 90 per cent clear of psoriasis and living a life in a slim, energy-driven, vibrant body." Now, apart from Jason Vale's humour, what is different about this book? Well, as you would expect, it does include masses of very interesting juice and smoothie recipes, super-fast juicing tips and how to choose the best, fresh produce. There is also the complete A-Z of fruits and vegetables. Now, I have been amazed at some of the things you can put through the juicer (fruit and veg-wise that is). Would YOU have thought of juicing a Brussels sprout for instance? Nor, apparently, would Jason Vale until his cousin suggested it. As it is a vegetable he never eats he wasn't going to include it - but now admits that although he would still never eat it - he will DRINK it mixed with other juices. He encourages you to be adventurous with your mixes but does give suggestions of which fruits and vegetables go well together. I will admit that, so far, I have not been too adventurous - mainly because my favourite juice is a mixture of orange, lemon and lime. As for his own recipes there are a lot to choose from. How about: "Planet of the Grapes - A gorgeous juice - one to go ape over". "The Cherry Springer - Go Cherry, Go Cherry, Go Cherry! Talk to the health 'cos the disease ain't listening". There are plenty more: The Jasper Carrot, The Thrill Clinton, The Melon Rouge, You've Been Mangoed and Cool Britannia. Half the fun of this book is reading what is in the various recipes - let alone trying them for yourself. The other books in the series are: Turbo-charge your Life in 14 Days, The Juice Master's Slim 4 Life, Stop Drinking 4 Life and Chocolate Busters. The price of the book is quoted as £8.99, but can be bought on the Juice Master's website or on Amazon for £5.99. The website is definitely worth a visit as there is a lot of further information about seminars, retreats etc. Would I recommend this book? Most definitely! I think I've been converted - there has never been so much fruit and veg. around the house for YEARS! I have juiced things I had never even tasted before (in the raw state anyway) - and has it made any difference? Well, it's a bit early to tell yet, but I'm sure it will. I've been sleeping better, waking-up full of life and actually looking forward to the next strange mixture to come out of the juicer. I am also determined to read his other books. I hope this will be of help to you - and I thank you for reading.
