Good Points

Really good recorder when working OK, but that almost never happend.


Bad Points

No matter if it is the cheap DVDR615, or the oldest DVDR1000, problems anyway!


General Comments

Philips have had the same problems since 2001 with the dvdr1000, and most other models after that. Some units work OK, but many units have errors simmilar to this.
My $2500 dvdr1000 went dead after only 3 years of use, and wasn't even worth the repair anymore.
I am a philips collector, but after their big failure of dvd recorders over the last 4 years, I will now recommend to people, not to buy from philips!!!!
They have had many years to fix their faulty firmware and recorders, but the same problems still appear today on the dvdr610,615, HDRW720+++ The list is long, and you find forums everywhere. People can't find a solution, when philips just dont care.
You do start to wonder if they had made it that way, so it won't last forever, and you have to buy a new unit and waste even more money because they die soon after the warranty time is over.
Even worse, if a problem appears when the recorder is new, who wants their new recorder in and out from service all the time?
Philips should really start to care about their customers, and not only about the money, but I guess that happens when you are so big in electronics.
My suggestion to this... buy a cheap DVD recorder from Taiwan instead, because it will propably hold longer than any philips anyway.
Hard to say it, but it is the truth, and the truth hurts sometimes!
