    General Comments

I have been a fan of Coronation Street for many years. I come from Manchester myself and although "Weatherfield" is not in keeping with most places within the borough of Salford, I still find I can relate to many elements of the show. One the great things about Coronation Street is the way they introduce new characters - slowly and subtly, unlike some of its counterparts who bring a character into the show and then focus on them solely for two weeks, whilst the viewer has, at this point, little interest - think back to the unlucky Ferraira family... Examples of this in Coronation Street are Violet, Anthony, Kelly, Adam Baldwin and Craig Charles' character (whose name I can't remember...). They have all been bought in on a small scale but are gradually getting more screen time, thus allowing viewers to gain familiarity at their own pace. Some of the storylines over the past year have been brilliant and well acted - the Sunita/Dev/Maya love triangle, Tracy/Karen/Steve and I particularly love Sally Webster as Weatherfield's own Hyacinth Bouquet. On the negative side, I do think that recently there has been a dip in the storylines, something which is a product of the summer period. One "humourous" storyline wouldn't be a problem. Humour is good and much needed when drama is high but the boxing match on Monday night was just farcical. The storyline surrounding the dogs is also a bit silly and the fish plotline surrounding Scooter is also slightly unbelievable. Okay, they are probably just toying with us, building up to the big Winter storylines. After all life isn't all affairs, deception and murder, but please come on Corrie - cut us a bit more slack!

Salford isn't a "borough," it is a city in its own right!
