Martinair sure knows how to provide passengers with the worst ever encountered travel experience!
Refer to the following flights (Miami-Amsterdam-Miami): 646/05.24.05 delayed 3 hours, 643/05.29.05 cancelled, 645/05.31.05 delayed 4 hours, 646/07.06.05 cancelled, 645/07.16.05 delayed 3 hours.
We never experienced any kind of problems with any Transatlantic Airlinecarrier in the past 10 years or so. But Martinair sure made up for this in these past 2 months.
On May 31st 2005 (645) all passengers were held in the plane while waiting on the tarmac for 4 hours while Martinair tried to fix some mechanical problems.
On July 6th 2005 (646) the same exact thing happens again! The pilot says at 10PM that "the crew is very concerned for passengers' safety" and therefore cannot take off until the mechanical problem is fixed. Passengers are held hostage in the plane for 4 hours!! The problem was not fixed! The same pilot says at 1AM that he could actually fly the plane to Dublin. All passengers' imminent reaction was of course "how could the plane not fly to Amsterdam but the same plane could fly to Dublin?" At 2AM all passengers are asked to leave the plane and check-in a hotel nearby. We requested to have the checked-in luggage back in order to be able to change clothes and use basic toiletry stuff while in the hotel. Martinair had full custody of all passengers luggage and denied us any access to our luggage. The next day Martinair rerouted and rescheduled our whole entire itinerary. We had no other choice than to fly Alitalia.
When we got the boarding pass from Alitalia we asked if the status of our luggage could be verified. Alitalia staff told us that Martinair had sole responsibility for luggage handling and unfortunately our luggage was not checked-in on the same flight that Martinair rerouted us on. To make the long story short we finally picked up our luggage 4 days later, on July 10th.
We'll simply never fly Martinair again!
Martinair developed a bad habit of overbooking their flights and constantly delay their flights Mia- Amst-Mia and give false information to their passengers. Total lack of service and professionalism. Martinair flight= Waste of time and money.
