Jay.'s Review of Boris Starling, Messiah
14th Jan 2003
Overall Rating
- Value for money

Nice construction, good use of dialouge.
Bad Points
Killer thinks he's Jesus Christ, then don't give the character the initials JC. Bit of a give away.
General Comments
I came to Boris Starlings Messiah after seeing the telivision adaption, I was surprised, and pleased to see that the original was far bolder that it's tv sibling. Serial Killers in fiction these days are ten a penny, but in this case 'Silver Tongue' (Awful, awful name) was an interesting charecter, not in the field of a Hannibal Lecter, but his motive was clever, and undeniably original. The ending, and certain aspects of the story were quite contrived, the coincidences and unprobablities coming thicker and faster as the story progressed. Also, a rather thuggish handling of homosexuals left a sour taste. All in all, a good book, but could've been better.
