This is the first of hopefully 3 reviews.
The first up is the Cyma CM023 which is basically a Heckler and Koch MP5 A2/A5J (from www.airshooter.co.uk). When you first open the box you can't help but be impressed by the number of extra's you get with this model. It comes with standard 25 rd magazine plus a high capacity mag, scope rail a mock red-dot sight which actually works and is fully adjustable, mock silencer, sling, safety goggles, spare screws/bolts, flat battery and a screw driver!
The model is powered by a 4.8v battery which looks like 4 AAA batteries stuck together (comes with a UK charger). After I charged the battery over night I put it into the SMG.
The first thing you notice when you hold the MP5 is the weight and how solid the build of this model. There are not a lot of metal parts with the exclusion of the stock which extends fully (but not adjustable) and has a solid rubberised butt plate. The rear sling hook is metal, but oddly the front is plastic. The front and rear sights are fixed and non-adjustable and although you can slide the cocking handle it's decorative only. There is a working selector switch from safety, semi and full auto.
This model has a "Variable Hop-Up" which the catch can be found above the magazine port on the opposite side of the cocking handle. The advertised velocity is 200 fps using 0.12g 6mm BB's. This is pretty poor considering that if you compare Cyma with Tokyo Marui (TM), Classic Arms (CA), KWA, etc were the average fps is between 245-260 fps using 0.25g BB's, but you really can't compare those models with the Cyma since TM, CA cost an average of £200 - £350 and I bought mine for £45.95!!! I didn't find any difference in the "variable Hop-Up" settings.
The model does rattle with the sound of the battery moving around. This can be overcome by jamming a piece of paper into the battery compartment.
Don't expect to win any prizes for accuracy with is model. Using a sticky target at 4-5 metres I could was fine with all 5 rounds grouping in 10cm area. At 9-10metres I squeezed off 10 rounds and only 1 hit the sticky target. Same story applies at full auto emptying a 30 rd mag in less than 4 seconds. The 0.12 BB's will not pass through cardboard.
Conclusion
I have always been interested in airsoft. I have owned a number of springer pistols and sub machine guns and a few gas pistols including Gas Blow Back's (GBB) but I have never been daring enough to splash on an Auto Electric Gun (AEG).
This is a low end AEG, but with some wonderful extras and accurate detail that make it a little bit special. If you don't mind not having much in the way of accuracy or power then this is a great little toy, but be RESPONSIBLE and DON'T go in public with this since you'll get an armed police officer with the real thing pointing at you.
Watch this space since I intend to place a review of the Cyma M83A2 (aka M4A1 RIS) and the Cyma M85P (aka Heckler & Koch G36c)
