General Comments

Whitstable, Seafood, Crab and Winkle - There are some ok dishes at the Crab and Winkle but they are few and far between. The restaurant survives on day tourist trade into the harbour. Some of the platter dishes are an absolute disgrace for a place that clearly seeks to make mileage from it's position above a harbour and the Augustine fish-sellers because they feature deep-frozen and compiled seafood when every other decent restaurant locally serves it fresh.

If you're after decent seafood in Whitstable, almost anywhere else will give you better - from the sublime Wheeler's (no chance - it's booked a zillion years in advance) to the Royal Native Oyster Stores (best main restaurant in Whitstable), the Hotel Continental (same people but better fayre than C&W) or a few pubs which also offer better.

The C&W is really a prime opportunity that's done very poorly and very lazily. I only wish our local papers would get off their backsides and give this place the review it deserves. With a good slap around the chops for complacency, a decent couple of chefs and a shot in the arm for the boring wine list, this could be the place it should be...

I am the owner of the Crab and Winkle Restaurant and would like to make some points quite clear.

1, Every thing is fresh fish, local game, shellfish only from Whitstable, home made chips, home made bread, home made ice cream. Everything that comes from my kitchen is made at my restaurant by my chefs with only the finest ingredients.
2, All my staff and myself spend hours and hours preparing dishes, and tasting etc...
3, My restaurant is not expensive - 2 courses from £11.00 for the lunch menu, or £16.00 for the harbour view menu.
4, We work with the season and change the menu to keep up with the quality. We also source as much local produce as possible.
5, If you feel you have not had an enjoyable time at our restaurant perhaps you should talk to my managers or even to myself, instead of slating us here. Wouldn't that make more sense or is that just to easy?

    Regards
