General Comments

Canon Pixma MP760: Looking for an All-In-One multifunction printer with LOW running costs? Well STOP! Stop right now. You will NOT find better than the Canon Pixma MP760, sure, it costs a little more but once you bring this beauty home take it out of the box you will instantly see where that extra few bob went. First thing I notice is how well packed it is (someone at Canon had the good Idea to use Orange Tape, you can't miss any!). Second thing I notice is the superb build quality, it looks and feels even more expensive than I shelled out for it, it looks 'The Dogs' as well. OK, so it doesn't come with a USB lead, but I'd bought some from Netto's for 99p a few weeks earlier and you can get them cheap enough else where now, besides, none of the other printer brands I tested came with one either! Once I had installed the software and fired up the beast I found it a joy to use. I won't go too much into the software, it's all adequate for all your print and scan jobs pretty much standard supplied software stuff really, you can always add some of your own if you prefer later on. I had to spend some time familiarizing myself with the features and reading the 'on disc documentation', but just for fun I loaded some paper and did a quick copy of my Gas bill and a photo of Tiddles. I noticed how quiet it is!

Then I found the Night time Quiet mode (Press menu button on the printer, the settings will show up on The LCD). After I did this, I had to strain my ears to even hear it at all. When printing in standard mode it's a podium finish at the very least though if you choose the high quality setting it slows down a bit but it's still well in the points! But you would only use the high setting for photos of your Granny and other loved ones, for every day use Standard is just fine. Quality of the printing is amazing, I know Bench marking Jerno's will probably pick out some minor flaw somewhere but I couldn't find any to my layman's eyes, the home user never will to be honest! Who the heck gets a magnifying glass or a microscope out to their holiday snaps anyway, unless you're trying to kop a closer look at the sunbather behind the ice cream shed! I have had more demos of different printers and more smarmy sales staff trying to sell me everyone I glanced at to last a life time and I can honestly say, nothing impressed me more than this printer, colours are bright and clear, skin tones are spot on, everyday document printing is as good as any printer gets (installation puts a very useful Print Link button for printing from the web on your Explorer Tool Bar) it even prints on to CD/DVDs as well,,(put a CD/DVD Label on your disc first or buy printable ones). The surprising thing is, this only uses three colour inks and two Black ones, yet it prints quicker and better than some of those six and more Ink ones I tried. It is also cheap to run, I have found compatible carts. Costing as little as a pound each on the web, though even with my "Run for the hills!! He's printing everything in his Path" mentality over the last few weeks my supplied ink has hardly budged.

By the way, a strong point here, sales staff, (especially the ones at Comet where I bought mine) told me that Canon only supplied 10% Volume Test carts in the box with the printer urging me to buy more at point of sale, well for the record, Canon supplied me with FULL Volume Carts with mine, I knew this already so wasn't tempted, "naughty naughty Comet, I've emailed Canon about you!"

Scanning is quick and easy and I've not noticed any detail being missed, I dare say Techno Jerno's will again get the microscope out and bleat about something or other to earn a wage.

Duplex Printing is quite frankly something out of Harry Potter! Be amazed at this, Canon have earned the accolade, who cares how it works, it just does! And works very well, so don't be tempted to whip out a screw driver and dismantle the darn thing in mid print to find out will you?

Summing up then' The Canon PIXMA MP760 is very well built and looks spanking, it prints, scans and copy's (Copy's without the need to boot up the PC) and Prints on to discs. It is fast, very quiet (so it won't wake up the neighbours at 3am). Print quality is as good as or better than anything else out there and very cheap to run, what the heck else do you want? Whip out your credit card ASAP, go on, you know you deserve it!
