Good Points

The retro style, interior and exterior finish, total comfort of (leather) seats, very comfortable and elegant drive irespective of distance, plenty of power if you need it. Reliance, was never let down by the car in 5 years of ownership.

Bad Points

Few, boot shape and shallowness always restricted load, latter services were not cheap, brake pads could lock on if car was left parked for days, although always released when driving off.

General Comments

I read the reviews on this site and felt that they differed from my own experience. I owned my S Type from new for 5 years. I always greatly admired its looks and the quality of the finish was excellent. I always got immense pleasure in driving the car and looked forward to long journeys. We would often visit places just for the pleasure of the drive. The car was fast and could really be pushed along- so surprised to read review to the contrary!! The car has not been faultless, one of the wheel joints was not sufficiently tightened, the dealer though was embarrassed by this, collected my car and left an X-Type until it was repaired. The battery died just outside the warranty period of 3 years. Likewise the expansion tank leaked. Both though were replaced as a courtesy by the dealer. I did though have to replace the brake discs (not pads) after 3 years due to corrosion and this was expensive. I initially obtained the car on a lease deal of 3 years from Abercromby Jag Edinburgh. The whole experience was excellent as were the service staff. Rossleigh then bought the franchise just at the end of the lease period. The car did not make the balloon payment. Rossleigh sales exec attitude was totally offhand more or less that's it goodbye. The service staff though remained excellent and I kept the car for a further 2 years. Bottom line, loved it and would have stayed with Jag if they made a smaller convertible, but I will go back in the future.
