General Comments

RWS Model 54 .22 cal Air Rifle
I got the package deal with the RWS model 300 scope and mount. This is a high quality 4x32 AO scope and the AO is marked and easy to adjust. Quick test at range shows the AO markings to be fairly precise. Optics look *almost* as clear and bright as my Kahles (Swarovski) scopes. The mount is adjustable, rides on gimbals to eliminate stress on the scope tube and is well engineered.

The rifle is quite heavy near 10 # or so with the scope. This makes it stable for accuracy but kludgy to carry around the field. The recoilless mechanism makes it less hold sensitive and easier to shoot than most other springers, though still not quite as user friendly as a conventional rifle.

Accuracy is very good, about what I get with a conventional rifle. The 54's inherent accuracy is better than most shooters.

Power is excellent, about 20 FPE which is at the upper end of the springer power range. Launches 14.3 CPFTs at 800 fps. Comparable to a Beeman RX-2 but not quite as strong as a Kodiak.

The side cocking is simple, easy and ergonomic and enables the '54 to have a fixed barrel which likely helps in the accuracy department.

My RWS-34 is several years old and my '54 is new. The comparison shows how RWS has introduced more plastic over the years. That's the only gripe I have with this rifle and it's a minor one - purely cosmetic and it does help keep the weight down.

This rifle is both more powerful and easier to shoot than most other springers, which is a superb combination.
