Good marketing using the ineffective and "not real life" Euro NCAP 5 star figures to promote a poorly engineered car.
Appalling Customer Services, dealers who are very busy making an extremely good living out of warranty work - to the extent that trying to book a service means a wait of three to four weeks.
The 1.9dCi engine is suspect if you can believe anything that you read on Mr P*rk*r's website. One of the largest topics on that site, or any where else for that matter, is about the M gane ll with more than 62,000 hits and an enormous number of posts. I read them and would sum up that this is a car with more rattles than mothercare, water ingress, poor electrics and doubtful engines . an awful lot of these dCi units seem to have faulty EGR valves, intercoolers and then blown turbos. Bodywork would appear to be below average re. paint and shut lines. The brakes squeak, the steering squeaks and as for the rattles....should make a good pram though. It seems that with the 17" wheel option the rear tyres don't last very long.
This Renault Megane 1.9 Dci Hatch is a car that deserves to succeed but I fear that once M gane lls come out of warranty and move into the used car market, the next owners will be put off Renault for life. There are all kinds of problems with the various engines - 1.4 16v, 1.6VVTi, 1.9dCi and the 2.0 litre. Geraboxes would seem to be a bit notchy here and there.
Dealers are pretty much hit and miss - and mainly miss at that. Warranty claims seem to require a long battle with Renault Customer Services and the dealer. In general owners would appear to be fobbed off far too often.
However if you want to know what it's like to be an (unpaid) automotive development engineer, this is the car for you!
At least the Euro IV cars have had their service schedules shortened. I wonder why?
