Cheap to own, run, and maintain. £ for £, a better car than the Golf 8v gti, escort rst, et al.
Understeer (which leads to lift off over steer if you try ;) ) Clutch can be heavy owing to release bearing siezing, wheel arches and sills prone to rust!
I have owned this Vauxhall Astra 1.8 SRi MK2 car for eight years (since I was 19) and it has only left me stranded twice. Once the rotor arm wore out, and once with a fuel leak. Both down to inproper maintenance. I have thrashed the car hard through out its life and done 80k in it (totalling to 130k) and the only problem with the engine is an oil leak. It has sadly come to the end of its life due to body corrosion, but I loved the car. I know three other people who owned an SRi MK2 astra, and they regret selling - It is the best car young money can buy.
