  • Memory

Good Points

-AA "BIG"-battery-LONG life (30-40 hours)
(not like those "dedicated/expensive" Lithium junk) I don't want to be required to use a special charger..so I LIKE this feature!

-Good sound quality.
-FM Tuner can scan and save memory presets (was not advetised)
-Player can fast-forward & rewind inside song
-much info on display screen
-firmware upgradable
-buttons etc large enough to be easy to control
-comes with armband
-line input recording

Bad Points

-USB-2.0 ? Works as SLOW as 1.0 because navigation software is SLOW.

-Here is a very BAD one!--
Cannot be recognised as a 'removable harddrive'!!
("my computer" icon does NOT 'see' this unit)
(you MUST use THEIR software)

-Another VERY bad one! Must have battery installed for USB cable to work !!! Cannot use power from computer-USB cable!

-No direct plug to computer..must use external USB cable

-not small enough to wear like a Necklace

General Comments

I like the iRiver iFP-899 unit.. but I do NOT like the "BAD" points. I bought it anyway. I think you could fit 2 of these inside an empty pack of cigarettes.. it is kinda BIG.. but not too big.

Not small enough to wear as a necklace. Get the "Samsung" unit for THAT.. but choose the "AA" battery type models for LONG playing.

It VERY much should be able to work in "My Computer" icon.. this is a big problem. You must use THEIR software!

If you download the firmware update from the Iriver website you can use this player as a mass storage device.
