Good Points

Very Central - only a short walk from the west side of St Marks Square, Good buffet breakfast with plenty of fresh choice - no need for lunch!! Clean rooms

Bad Points

Fairly small rooms but then the building did use to be a merchants house and this is Venice after all where none of the rooms are going to be huge. Perfect for a central base though and the room size didn't put us off. The reception hall is tiny however and if more than a couple of people with bags are checking in it could be quite tricky..although there is a small bar area and they allow you to keep your bags there if you are either early arrival of want to check out and have an evening flight etc.

General Comments

I have seen reviews on Antica Casa Coppo on other sites which complain about unhelpful staff, difficult location to find and unacceptably small rooms and the fact that the breakfast room is a walk away from the hotel....

Our experience was very different from this though... the staff were very helpful and friendly.

We got off the Grand Canal no 1 vaperetto (water bus) at Vallares (for Piazza San Marco) a quick walk past all the designer shops on Calle de Vallares, straight onto Calle le Frezzeria, over a canal and a left a little further up. Easy!

One word of warning...if you come from Treviso airport and take a land bus to where you pick up the vaperettos do not be swayed by water bus con men who will take you off the coach and to a side alley and onto to shoddy non official boats for 10 euros or more rather than the official ACTV water bus services which should cost about 5 euros for a grand canal tickets. We very nearly got caught out (lots of people were) but clicked when they were so pushy and getting angry when we insisted that we thought it should be 5 euros....

The breakfast restaurant is a short walk away but its literally down two tiny streets to a very nice hotel/restaurant and the quality and quantity in the breakfast room more than makes up for the slight inconvenience of having to leave your hotel. We actually found that it got us out sight seeing earlier because once we were out, we were out for the day.

The rooms are quite small but come on!! this is Venice, they are old merchant houses so of course they aren't going to be big sprawling suites but the bathrooms are new and very clean and we had no complaints.

We went in February, during Carnival time and it was a really lovely time to go, the locals were all in fine spirits and there were free bar gigs, events going on in Saint Marks Square and while it was absolutely freezing cold it was very sunny and all our pictures had perfect bright blue sky in the background.

We had a brilliantly romantic and wonderful time and would recommend this hotel to others.
