Good Points

Works extremely well in Auto mode. Good sharp images, beautiful color. Easy to follow function buttons.

Bad Points

Yet to be determined why, but unfortunately the 2 CR-V3 lithium batteries included ran down within two days. Not more than 20 pictures were taken and not more than an hour was spent in downloading the images to the PC. Camera was definitely left in the "off" position overnight.

General Comments

Unfortunately, close to six hours was spent trying to determine how to download the images from the Camera to the PC. The instruction booklet does not address the fact that you need to extract them from Drive (E): which is automatically created when you install the software. The
SmartMedia Card is seen as a hard drive. The CAMEDIA 2.5 desktop software only serves the purpose of editing and storing the pictures.

I am basically a painter/designer and needed a quick but dependable digital camera for recording my refernce materials. I use these later on while doing may paintography; a new medium of expression invented by me, I skectch the canvas on my PC then add layers of various graphics, select colours and textures from nature, and little more of hand painting complete the paintograph. Then I print separated layers to get that old print making effect.
The c2040 is amzingly dependable and delivers excellent colour and textural renditions.
I was used to downloading images on earlier olympus but this did not work that way. I spent two long nights and was going to return it. Suddenly I saw a new drive on the screen as K. Clicked and all was there. Damn Olympus who never mentioned any clue to that.
Now I am the happiest person and love this little wonder.
Thanks OLYMPUS. I already have been using their film cameras and was impressed.
