General Comments

Edge - the magazine that dragged videogames out of the teenager's bedroom and into the living room, under the widescreen telly for everyone to see.
Seminal PS1 racer WipEout is generally credited with making games 'cool' and a subject that could be discussed in the pub, but in reality it is Edge that lead the way. The stylishly minimalist design, the well written reviews, the no-nonsense approach to the subject of gaming - all things that have made Edge the leading 'mature' games tome. Recently, there has been some stiff competition from GamesTM, but with it's heritage, EDGE is still the most respected UK mag. A bit like the UK version of Famitsu.

However, the one criticism I have is that Edge sometimes takes itself a bit too seriously. While the mag is really well produced, where is the fun? The in-jokes and the ribbing of fellow reviewers (ala Sega Power/Amiga Power/CVG) is pretty much non-existent.

With a bit of humour thrown in, Edge would be the perfect mag. Untill then, GamesTM will be getting my cash.
