The staff were excellent.
The whole hotel stank of raw sewage the whole time. The food was very poor with very limited choices.
The Pestana Delfim Hotel in Alvor is pictured to be on the beach. It takes about 15 mins to walk down to there. The beach itself is lovely.
We stayed on the 16th floor ( the top ) and all the time the whole place stank of raw sewage. In the morning, it made me feel physically sick and I had to hold my breath whilst using the bathroom. This is where it was the strongest. The corridors all stank if it too.
The food was very poor. The lack of choice at breakfast meant that if you don't like tomatoes or baked beans, you had 4 choices of egg and nothing else. The baked beans and tomatoes are done in rotation, so you get either beans or tomatoes every day, not both. The evening meal was of a better standard but still very lacking in choice.
The rooms were cleaned daily, but the standard wasn't very good at all.
If you are looking for a 4 star hotel in Alvor, I wouldn't advise you to choose this one! The area is very quiet and lifeless (boring!), so unless you just want to lay on the beach all day and do nothing else, I would not recommend Alvor or even the Algarve at all.
