Good Points

No tools to do everything on the chainsaw is a good point.

Bad Points

Chain is probably a low quality one.

General Comments

I purchased a top brand chain saw twenty years ago and the chain that came with it was rubbish but you could buy a decent one. It appears it is the same with this Bosch AKE 40-17 S Chainsaw. Probably do not be put off by this, as all small electric and petrol chain saws may be the same.

I suppose they say it is only a home use one and it does cut palm trees perfectly. Hard trees is another thing.

I purchased it at Bunnings at Carseldine, Brisbane, Australia but they do not have spare chains. I'll have to try a mower/chain saw company for a new chain.

It does not appear to be using the oil. I have been putting oil on the chain from a bottle. I have filed the chain the once and is really good for palm trees.

Someone could possibly advise if the saw is not suppose to cut the harder timber trees. I have a wattle tree with an 8 inch branch which I have not been able to cut through yet.

I'm at colinhansen68@hotmail.com if anyone can advise where to purchase the Bosch chain in Brisbane.

Further to my initial comments, I have now purchased an Oregon chain. The local mower shop made it up for me while I waited. It is a 57 link Mini Picco but take your old one to the mower shop to be sure. The new chain cuts even hard timber like butter. I have done quite a bit and the chain is still like new. I unblocked the oil "hose" by lightly screwing a small drill bit in. Be careful, as this would not be recommended by the manufacturer, because if you go too far I suspect you would cut the rubber hose. Compressed air from both ends did not unblock it.
I am using an oil can regularly to keep my chain good. As I do not use it much, this is not a problem.

Putting on the chain is a breeze when you have worked out how to do it so overall with the new chain I would give it 10 out of 10.

From my experience with Bosch tools, they seem to be better than other tools but the chain on the chain saws would be made to a price to match the other cheap saws. The Bosch drills are also brilliant with the way you undo the chuck. It is different to all other drills and much better.

Bosch did not tell or pay me to say this.
