General Comments

After a wonderful stroll in Walpole Park, I went with my three young children, husband and sister to Ealing's Cafe Uno. We are from Lymington (which has a fairly good Cafe Uno with attentive staff and a great chef - so we thought we'd go to a 'tried and tested' place we knew of well - well at least the Lymington one is !) ALAS !! we were to be very disappointed. The waitress who blatantly behaved premenstrual and had a miserable mood about her could not have served us any slower - keeping in mind that the restaurant was really empty. We first sat down at a table, which 10 minutes later were told by this waitress that it was reserved - NO SIGN or anything but we were supposed to have assumed this as she said that she had put some menus on it. This was at about 3.50pm. So we moved over to another two tables and put my 5 and 6 year olds on one table and squished ourselves onto another table nearby ! We only wanted a small snack and a coffee so we ordered the Bruschettas which we have orderd before in other Cafe Uno restaurants. At £3.95 we thought they were taking us for idiots when she brought to us a plate with a 3 inch bit of toasted bread with some chopped tomatoes on it ! I mean - at 50 pence that would've been just about bearabble, but we thought we were going to get what we usually got - TWO larger sizes of bread with all the trimmings. She then said 'the menus have recently changed' .. it's a pity they didn't reduce the price when they reduced the content of said bruschetta ! All in al NO tip was given. I'd try poco loco .. 2 doors down or bella pasta... Oh yes, when we left about an hour later, the reserved table which she originally moved us from remained empty - the waitress, upon my husband's querying, stated that it was reserved for just after 5pm and she had known that we were only there for a quick snack. I am glad we were not intending to eat any main meal.
