McShi39's review of Microsoft Xbox

“The Microsoft Xbox was just a mistake. They shouldn't...”

★☆☆☆☆

Good Points
No good points for this terrible system.

Bad Points
Too many to name.

General Comments
The Microsoft Xbox was just a mistake. They shouldn't have made it. There aren't very many good games for this. Practically none of their games are exculsive to the Microsoft, besides for the Halo Games. Those weren't that good anyway. You get bored of them so easily. Every X-Box I have ever had broke down real quick. Overall, this system is the worst. I say that they should get rid of the whole system all together. Bye Bye X-box is what should happen.

A few comments on this review:
Many titles from PS2 transcend to Xbox. They’re improved, containing extra levels, better graphics and more features. This is what so many PS2 gamers are bitter about. In a sense, they’re exclusives within their own right. Add the ability to download extra content via Live; you’ve got pretty innovative, unique games. "They should have never of made it”? Apart from there being other competitors who blatantly gambled investor’s money like idiots - (that`s a certain company making cartridge based software): 1.5 million units were sold in the states, alone, last quarter (Not even going into the software sales cause I suspect it’s not worth it). Business was quite sluggish at first but now, many former PS2 owners have upgraded. Xbox is actually very durable with a higher exchange/refund/repair rate on the leading competitors part; Sony. To be fair though, Sony shifted more units. There were a percentage of Xboxes recently recalled which had `fire hazard` faulty power systems. Not many customers turned down new Xbox’s or opted for exchange. Either way, with an estimated 300 decent titles available for Xbox, who needs “exclusives” anyway? What difference does it make?

There is much more to Xbox than Halo.

Nah look, I'm sure Halo was released and developed for PC first, in fact wasn’t it originally intended to be some team strategy game on pc, not fps? Again, you've mentioned the lack of exclusive titles that 'are any good' but I totally disagree. I've been stocking up on the second hand market, buying games for next to nothing & I've got to say I'm pleasantly surprised at the colossal amount of exclusives for Xbox - I haven’t even been intentionally looking for them. Look hard enough, you will find in excess of 300 (more than enough for the average gamer). I agree with what you've said about Sony, blue ray technology wont go down in price either because it’s too expensive to manufacture. The 360 looks set to conquer the market and the original Xbox will long be popular on the retro / modding market just as the dreamcast still has die hard fans.

First, Microsoft being better than Sony is an opinion. Just like the Xbox being rated low by McShi. Everyone is allowed an opinion. Second, I am not a Sony fanboy, my favorite company is Nintendo. Thirdly, there are MANY good and popular (and exclusive) titles on the PS2. For example: Jak & Daxter's, Ratchet & Clank's, God of War, Dragon Ball Z: Budokai's, and Ace Combat's. And Final Fantasy, which you mentioned. And by the way, Doom and Half-Life ARE NOT Xbox original games, they are ports from PC games. The only true original game Xbox has is Halo. Which is the main reason the Xbox hasn't pulled a DreamCast yet.

However, I do think the Xbox 360 might be better than the PS3, and here's why: the price. The cheapest PS3 you can buy is going to start at 500 USD. And in order to get the wireless Internet Sony was bragging about you need to buy the 600 USD PS3 package. And on top of that, the Microsoft Website (according to my friend) said the 360 will drop in price around the launch of the PS3. All Microsoft needs to do is release more hot games and they will be set. I think Sony is in for a bumpy ride if Microsoft plays their cards right.

Well why don't they put high end graphics games like HALF LIFE 2 or DOOM3 on the PS2 or Nintendo Gamecube and what special games has the PS2 got? Well there's the final fantasy series and that's it - The PS2 is also made by Sony and the Xbox by Microsoft and Microsoft is much, much better.

I think this review’s almost as bad as mine. In particular, the “bye, bye Xbox is what should happen” made me really chuckle. It’s naive yet at the same time cool. You guys (not so much on this thread) are starting to quote stuff out of official psx monthly now. It’s getting desperate when you have to resort to picking on game bugs, isn’t it? Look at yourselves now.. You sound like those shuffle boys you see in the gameshop. It’s kinda nerdy, wreaks idolization of global dominated commercialism. You know the one’s I mean -

XBOX remakes are not improved versions of PS2 games. They are just poor immitations that add glitches that are VERY present in almost every game you see. Halo 2, one of XBOX's only 2 claims to fame, has sooooooo many! In a cut scene of one player, occasionally you can see the system build the characters right in front of you. It starts with a frame, then adds colors, then details. Maybe it was only on this one BOX, but that's a glitch. XBOX is not VASTLY superior to the GCN. Granted, is has a hard drive and better graphics overall, but the best graphics I've ever seen are in Resident Evil 4 - an exclusive GCN title. In addition, MOST GCN graphics are close to XBOX quality, you just subtract flaws. The GCN is also fifty USD cheaper than the BOX, and there isn't a $50 difference in the value of these graphics.

GiantE. wrote: "Wolkfenstein, M.o.h - Frontline, Starwars Republic Commando, Area 51, Doom 3, Time splitters FP, The Unreal Championship Series Games." EXACTLY! Only Unreal is an exclusive! I can get all those games on a PS2 or PC!!! My exact point. Most good games you can get on Xbox, are on other system(s). To my point: You still have given me no reason to buy an Xbox!

Weird how many times the "there aren't any good games for xbox" comment appears or the question of exclusives. Don`t folks open their eyes when they enter a games shop? It`s kinda nit-picky. Plenty of great PSX 2 ports available, improved, for Xbox. What about the whole Tom Clancy series & all the strat third person shooters available? If you`re just taking fps - It`s difficult to rival Halo but there are plenty of good ones :-
(Past & Present): Wolkfenstein, M.o.h - Frontline, Starwars Republic Commando, Area 51, Doom 3, Time splitters FP, The Unreal Championship Series Games. What do people want? Blood? As far as exclusives go - they`re mostly used to launch a console or compete with rival releases, differing it from the competitors. It doesn't determine a consoles status on the market or it`s cred. The important thing is to have a range of good titles available which are value for money. If you don't like any of these games, why even own a console? If you don`t think there`s any point buying Xbox over rival companies despite it`s subtle game improvements & tech specs, that`s a choice you`re entitled to.

If you can get the same title and almost the same game on a PS2 or GC there is no point in having an Xbox. I don't care how "great" the system itself is! And it misses out on great titles such as Devil May Cry, Zelda, Metal Gear Solid, Mario, Ace Combat, Rogue Squadron, Gran Turismo, Resident Evil, Pokemon, God of War, Metroid, and many others...exclusives on the PS2 or GC. And what does Xbox have to make me "want" to buy it? Halo. That is it. You may say the Xbox has downloadable features, but what good is that when you have almost no good games to go with it?
