Review of 'The Tree That Could Fly'

Sky Blue was a very tiny fairy, whose wings looked just like the bright blue sky. Her wings were so blue that she was simply known as Bluey. The Fairy Queen of the Whispering Woods was her mother, a gentle and wise fairy.
Bluey asked her mother if she could play in the Whispering Woods. The Fairy Queen gave her permission but warned her to be wary of the rain. Rain made it very difficult for fairies to fly and Bluey was such a little fairy that getting her wings wet spelt trouble.
So Bluey went to the Whispering Woods to enjoy herself amid all of the wood's natural wonders. She was having such a good time she did not notice the approaching storm. It was a very fierce storm, full of torrential rain and strong winds. Not one that small fairies should mess with.
The storm struck swiftly and Bluey found herself in a heap of trouble. Heavy rain pelted her, strong winds buffeted her, tossing her all about. She was desperate, alone and afraid, a small soul pitted against the might of the storm.
An old apple tree took pity on Bluey and came to her rescue. He cradled her in his branches, giving Bluey a safe place until the storm blew itself out. So grateful was Bluey to the tree for his kindness that she granted him a special wish.
The tree thought and thought about what he would like. Eventually he made up his mind what to wish for. He wanted to sit high on a mountaintop where he could see all that was happening in the Whispering Woods. Bluey granted the tree his wish and so began her great adventure.
Alma Bond has created a beautiful fairy story that young readers will delight in. Bluey will appeal to their sense of adventure, as she braves the storm and helps her friend. The wonderful illustrations of Barry Sandefur and Gladys Natchez are ablaze with color. They capture the spirit of the story and add to the books rich texture.
This is a book that will keep young children enraptured in its magic. They will want to read it again and again, enjoying the adventure as much as Bluey herself. The Tree That Could Fly is a book that will take pride of place in young child's collection.
