Nancy Rodgers's Review of Matt James, The City Gardener
23rd Apr 2005
Overall Rating
- Value for money

I liked his views of the various plants at the back of the book.
Bad Points
Far too many pictures of HIMSELF - 55 in all. What a waste - I wanted to see pictures of the gardens that he has built on his TV programme, a big disappointment to find so many hackneyed, old-fashioned pictures, some of which have appeared in other gardening books, also far too many pictures of flowers - which tells me nothing about how to build a garden. Matt James must love himself to sanction so many posed photos of himself.
General Comments
Matt James, The City Gardener is a very disappointing book.
Very little new, and an astounding 55 photos of Matt James, which teaches me nothing about gardening. These photos of Matt James are at the expense of valuable shots of the gardens that he has built. I shall be getting my money back on the book.
