Good Points

Inexpensive, independance from CO2, accurate (with a barrel recrown), reasonably powerful for it's price range, good deal of aftermarket parts and modifications available, fairly quiet (when compared to similiar powered CO2 guns.

Bad Points

Overuse of plastic parts (breech and sights), needs trigger job and barrel recrown out of the box, stock is too unstable in stock trim.

General Comments

The Crosman 2289G is a single-shot multi-pump pneumatic airgun. It is basically the same design as the 1322/1377 series, except for the longer barrel, different style forearm and the inclusion of a synthetic stock.

This a a good model for the entry level airgunner or someone who wants to have a multi-pump around the house for occasional use. In stock form, it is a hard hitter that is light and comfortable to handle. The gun can be a short rifle (14.5" barrel)or an awkward long pistol - removal of the stock is quick in stock form. However, the mechanism that allows such quick removal of the stock aids in it's instability. The peep sights leave a bit to be desired and the gun does not come with integral scope rails. To mount a scope you will either have to buy a set of Crosman's 459 mounts or install an aftermarket breech that is grooved for a scope.

It can serve the uses of an lower-powered intermediate level gun after it had undergone quite a few modifications. On my 2289, I've replaced the plastic breech with a steel one, replaced the stock 14.5" barrel with an 18" recrowned barrel, drilled the stock so that it is held on with two grip screws, performed a trigger job that decreased the trigger pull to under 2 lbs, mounted a 7X scope, mounted a cheekrest on the stock, and installed a heavier hammer spring to increase valve performance. Keep in mind that these modifications significantly increase the overall cost of the gun by up to 5X.
