Handling, steering, noise levels, refinement, ergonomics, engine, handsome styling.
ECU fault, interior styling, gearchange.
I really enjoyed my Vauxhall Astra 1.6 Sxi overall, what suprised me the most was the handling and steering which was much better than any vauxhall of the past by far. The car was also very quiet and refined, all the controls are well laid out and the quality is pretty good too.
Vauxhall engines have always been good and this is no exeption, I had the 1.6 16v and it was very smooth and strong, economy was pretty good too averaging around 40 mpg.
On the negative side the interior styling was a bit dull (something they addressed on the 2001- models) and I broke down once due to an ECU fault which was rectified by the warranty, I had no other problems with the car. I owned one for two years and covered 60,000 miles in it. If I wasn't offered a company car I would still be driving it today!
