A well packaged car, with a real personality - one could say it A Class appeal. Handling is spot on for this mini MPV; it certainly is not going to roll over. A great driving position and I would say my 1999 car which I owned for 3 year had interior trim which was up to Mercedes standards.
The car had a new engine within the first month and I took the car back to dealership over 25 times in the 3 years of ownership. There attitude was appalling and could diagnose the most basic of faults. The suspension had to be repaired on may occasions, rear tailgate was impossible for them to fix. I would not buy this car out of Mercedes Warranty.
Despite the bad points I loved the car and would probably still buy one. HOWEVER, Mercedes have flooded the UK market. The marque has lot any prestige they it may have had. The car was fairly rare when I purchased mine, and that made the car feel special. The handling is superb, although the seats are not comfortable, although you will get used to this. The car is also practical being able to swallow large amount of language and it performed its household duties well. Fuel consumption was high for a 1.6 car, mine was equipped with the Auto Clutch System (ACS) that worked well, when you got used to it. I would avoid A140s and look for an A160, A190, or A210, if like a bit of sprit in your motoring.
