Good Points

Excellent interior and lots of storage areas. Scenic also handles real well and the ride is just right. Keyless system is excellent for ease of access. V. safe, 5* NCAP.

Bad Points

1.6 needs a 6th gear to avoid the high revs at motorway speeds.

General Comments

I have been really impressed with the Renault Scenic Dynamique 1.6 16v's standard - excellent visibility, stablity and saftey. The only issue is the engine - the 1.6 is just about ok as a run-about but is pushed hard at motorway speeds and needs a 6th gear. I'd go for the derv if I had the chance again - goodness knows what the 1.4 is like in terms of power! My Scenic also let water in from the underneath of the car but was fixed by the dealer - still a bit of a worry on a new car.

    Hi there,
I currently have a Scenic (1.4l, 4years old) which is actually costing me lots of money in maintenance and repairs (ignitions coils fail at least once a year, shock absorber the same, timing belt). Now the clutch seems to be gone (My dealer said it could be a Monday Morning Car ...).
I like the car and am looking at a new model (2005) with a 1.6l engine. As new car I find the Scenic is too expensive (compared to other brands) but I like the high seating and the general look and comfort. My local dealer will get a 1.6 with sun roof and Automatic Gear at the end of the month which is 6 months old.

I never had an automatic? Do you you have any experience? Do you know of any my problems above in the 2005 series?
Thanks for getting back to me.

I don't know what the auto is like but the 1.6 manual is thirsty around town - heavy car. The 1.6 is pretty jumpy around town as well - needs lots of revs to get it going so the auto may make town driving less of a chore.

I've had no problems with the car at all (since the leak) - now at 13K miles and would highly recommend it. I'd go for the derv version or the larger petrol engine though the 2.0 is a pretty poor motor according to other reviews.

I have keyless which is excellent and aircon (got to have it!) but didn't go for cruise which I regret.

It's seriously a good car for the money. I drive an Elise 111R as my other car - the Scenic actually handles v. well indeed for what it is... The Elise is the benchmark for handling!

Thanks for getting back to me. I am sure I will get the newer Scenic model - hopefully soon.
I know that the bigger engine has a higher consumption but the 1.6 is better equiped as well. And ... as I'm driving many miles on national roads I think it will be a better choice.

    Regards
    Marcus

Had a 1.6 RXE auto for 5 years. Bought at 4 months old ex Avis. Absolutely no probs with it. Just had to replace brakes and exhaust (first from new). Not the nippiest but seems better than a manual. Struggles a bit towing a boat, but no probs on slipways etc. Just about to replace it with a new one, here's hoping it's as good !
