The store does give you fuel allowance if there is a problem and you need to return the item.
It would appear that the customer needs to locate the fault.
I visited the Ikea Croydon store recently and purchased a Norden 267cm x 220cm birch table. I took the table home and assembled it. When you fully close the table you are still able to see at least two of the metal pins.This is because the measurements of the table has not been cut to the correct measurements.The centre of each of the sections measures 2cm too short. This is why you have a gap. Also when you include the little extender bit, this does not run flush with the rest of the table.
(br)I phoned Ikea and asked that someone call me from their Croyden store. I shortly received a call from that store and was asked to return the items. I returned them and received £10 fuel and inconvienience (they have a list they view which is calculated on where your home address is).
(br)I was brought in another table which had the same date made number 0416. This was made in the 16th week of 2004. I showed them that by putting the two leaves together there was the same problem. I even measured both tables and showed them that they had been incorrectly cut. The store said they would phone me when a new set of tables with a different made date arrives. Later that week I received that call and was assured that a different batch had arrived. I visited the store the next day only to find that the new batch which was on a pallet was the same 0416 batch. I was this time compensated £20 for my troubles. I am still waiting for them to call. Whilst I like Ikea I did not enjoy this experience. I spoke to a member of staff who said that they had put three of these 0416 tables together and found no fault.
They have still not written to me and I will again attempt to contact the store manager about this item and the lack of communication. I have also spoken to Trading Standards at Croyden.
