Price, Easy to cock, Pretty accurate.

Scope mount is less than stellar
Mixed finished between the barrel and muzzle break
General Comments
I bought the Beeman Silver Bear 1783 gun for $57 at Walmart. It seemed like a decent choice since the Powerline 1000S was $94 and the Gamo Shadow was $124. Of course it doesn't have the power that the other guns do (500fps vs 1000fps), but it also doesn't require as much power to cock it. After reading good reviews on this page and reviewing the other options I went for it.
After I got it home I figured out that the scope wasn't mounted properly and therefore was also sighted improperly. I took it off and bent the mount a little to make it line up a little better and then sighted it in the next day. It is a decent gun for plinking in the back yard, but that is ALL. I thought 500fps would be enough, but it isn't. Shooting at a cardboard box, it barely makes it through one side and out the other using copperhead wad cutters. I was shooting at a USPS Priority box...on two sides it was doubled up so effectively shooting through 4 sheets of cardboard. Adding one more layer brought it to it's end. In my opinion this is just not nearly enough power. On top of that, the trigger is pretty long and hard to pull and the sound it makes is just...annoying.
Needless to say, I will be returning the gun in the next couple days. My replacement will probably be a .22 Rim fire rifle. I was looking for something that would be silent (i live in a small town) and with some certain sub-sonic rounds I've learned that is possible with a rim-fire rifle. There's no difference in price, so it seems reasonable to have more versatility.
