They used to be good
They aren't any more
Eley Wasp 5.6mm:
Years back I used to shoot a .22 BSA with a 5.6mm barrel (as opposed to the 5.5mm now on BSA's).
I remember them to be some of the best made pellets around, always nice and uniform in shape with a nice shiny finish. In my old BSA they were unbeatable and I must have shot around 8000 of them over the years, if I missed, it was my fault.
I bought a tin today for an old Webley pistol I have just bought, I opened the tin waiting for all the memories to come flooding back......
WRONG!
I found myself looking at a tin of misshapen, dirty looking pellets with a finish I would have expected on the rubbish Marksman pellets I used to use to scare tin cans. (Remember them? They used to come in a cardboard box at £1 per 500).
Probably the majority of skirts were vaguely triangular around their circumference; four pellets were actually fused together having slipped through what passes for quality control these days. The heads are all roughly finished and there is some sort of emulsified lubricant all over the place.
I tried them through my rifle as well as the pistol, grouping was poor with the pistol, but I never was very good. The rifle (with a Harris Bipod) couldn't group at less than 1.5" at 10 meters. It puts 3 Daystate FT's through the same hole at that range.
I hope this is a hiccough in the fortunes of the company.
I won't be buying any more until I hear they have improved.
A sad end to what was an exceptional product.
