Good Points

The weather was guaranteed sunshine and very hot (too hot!!), the people were the friendliest we've ever met and The Gambia as a destination offers a truly unforgettable experience.

Bad Points

Sometimes a 'truly unforgettable experience' doesn't neccesarily mean it's a good thing!! The local bumsters could be quite trying at times, but they were never threatening or abusive and they were a minute minority compared to the vast majority of wonderful friends we made.

General Comments

The Palm Grove Hotel had its good points and its bad points.
The rooms were quite basic but always clean and were spacious. The pool area, bars and gardens were great and well maintained by the staff.
We did find the hotel expensive. Air-conditioning is £9 a day extra, a fan approx £4-with nighttimes temperatures hotter than you'd care to imagine they've got you over a barrel really!!! We stuck it out and sweated the nights away though!!!
The hotel food was not really up to what we would have liked, considering the hotel excelled in most other areas. It is expensive (whether you want a quick snack at lunch or dinner in the evening) and we didn't really think it was worth what it cost.
The Palm Grove is located adjacent to a beautiful lagoon area which leads to The Atlantic Ocean. Whilst it is stunning it is also practically in the middle of nowhere and is not in walking distance of anywhere really unless you like walking down a shadeless busy highway at 40 degrees plus! That said there are a couple of decent restaurants approx 200 yards down the beach from the hotel.
Overall we were still very satisfied and would happily return-remember Gambia is a third world country and the facilities provided ARE top notch in this area of the world. As our friends on the beach would say..."This is Gambian Experience!!"
