General Comments

First off, online IS NOT everything, which is a good job for the Nintendo Gamecube. When it comes down to it, it is all about gameplay and fun factor. In my opinion, the Gamecube (GC) has both.

The graphics in this system are very polished and well done. Overall, much better than the PS2 and almost as good if not as good as the XBox. The controller was very comfortable for almost every game made for the system.

Even though there aren't many titles out for the GC, there are many exclusives that are amazing that make the GC worth buying. For example: Legend of Zelda: WindWaker, Metroid Prime, Metroid Prime 2: Echoes, Mario Kart Double Dash, Mario Power Tennis, Resident Evil Zero, Resident Evil 4, Star Wars Rogue Sqaudron II, F-Zero GX, and last but not least, Super Smash Bros. Melee; to name a few. I would recommend this system to every gamer.

Allow me to retort, er, Samus. The Gamecube's visuals can not stand up to those seen in many Xbox games simply because it is has a clock speed that is a good 300Mhz slower and less than half of the graphics memory.

The Gamecube may have games such as Resident Evil (that is brilliant), but ultimatley, the Gamecube is aimed at young children! Anyone who thinks otherwise may need to be sectioned under the Mental Health Act. Look at it! It's a purple square with a handle! Look at the games! They are all cartoons! The only 'serious' games on the GC are ports of games from the PS2 or Xbox. There are very few 3rd party games being released for the GC because the public has spoken and nobody is buying it - even for £40. Personally, I'd rather spend forty quid on a Deamcast and a load of games than a GC. In fact, I'd rather have a Saturn, N64 or Jaguar! At least there are some games that don't feature furry animals and balloons on those systems!!

  2. SamusAran551 Rank: Lieutenant-Colonel on 6th Apr 2005

You are right, there aren't too many "adult" games for the GC. But, I would rather have an extra fun "kiddy" game (Metroid, Zelda, Mario, etc.) than an o.k. "adult" game (most xbox and ps2 games). And I think it is a compliment saying that Nintendo gets little 3rd party support...because guess what...Nintendo is making games for 3 game systems! Making that many games for that many systems with little 3rd party support is an accomplishment. And one more thing: There aren't many awesome 3rd party companies that make great games all the time.

  3. Cordasum Rank: Staff Sergeant on 17th Apr 2005

laugh out loud, true. TOMLEECEE has a point.

  4. SamusAran551 Rank: Lieutenant-Colonel on 20th Apr 2005

laugh out loud: TOMLEECEE's point is horrible. You can't base a game system off the way it looks. And if you did, your precious Xbox is the worst one. Look at it! It is a heavy piece of junk.

  5. Cordasum Rank: Staff Sergeant on 22nd Apr 2005

At least the Xbox doesn't have little retarded animals running around the screen and an embarrassment to all gamers!

  6. SamusAran551 Rank: Lieutenant-Colonel on 25th Apr 2005

Little animals running around? What are you talking about? I have owned over 30 games for the GameCube, and played at least 20-25 more. And there isn't a single game in which there are little animals running around all the time. There are times in certain games where little animals may run around during a cinema scene, but that happens in other games, even PS2 and Xbox games. Wow, you Xbox people are full of it.

  7. TOMLEECEE Rank: Colonel on 26th Apr 2005

Animal crossing, doshin the giant, pikmin, star fox adventures - all have animals running around. Also, can you recommend a good rally or football game for the gamecube please?! Face it samus, the GC stinks...and you know it!

  8. SamusAran551 Rank: Lieutenant-Colonel on 27th Apr 2005

Why would I play a soccer or football or basketball video game when I could just go outside play the ever better real game and get exercise too?! The only good sports games are ones that are different and unique. And who cares if the GC has some games with furry little animals? I've said it before, gameplay is where it's at. Even though a lot of the Xbox games are "mature" and "manly" DOES NOT make them good games. In fact, a lot of the Xbox games didn't stand up to what they were supposed to be anyway. Halo 2...perfect example. It was a very nice game, but it wasn't near as good as it was made out to be. Fable, another good example; except it was horrible. Good GC games:

F-Zero GX, Legend of Zelda: WindWaker, Resident Evil 4, Resident Evil Zero, Mario Kart DD!!, Mario Power Tennis, Metroid Prime, Metroid Prime 2, Pikmin, Super Smash Bros. Melee, Star Wars Rogue Sqaudron II, Baiten Kaitos, Tales of Symphonia, and Donkey Konga - by the way, all of which are EXCLUSIVES! How many does Xbox have that are good?

Anyway, back to answering your question: Almost all sports games that are released are also on GC. Madden, Fifa, NBA Live, NBA Street, NFL Street to name a few. And also, if you want to argue racing games...F-Zero GX, Mario Kart, Need For Speed. So...no. The GameCube DOES NOT suck, it has all your precious sports games and plenty of really good exclusives.

  9. Cordasum Rank: Staff Sergeant on 27th Apr 2005

Samus you can't say anything, just a while back you said yourself that you wouldn't mind playing the "kiddy" games and usually "kiddy" games has little animals in it, so shut it.

  10. TOMLEECEE Rank: Colonel on 28th Apr 2005

Need for Speed?! F-Zero?! Are you insane Samus?!?!? All of the examples you have mentioned stink! As for your comments about going outside and playing football - what?! We're not talking about that - we're talking about how bad the GC is! Anyhow, this argument is ridiculous and gone on for too long. It's like this - Xbox rules, PS2 is a good alternative, GC is for weird, cretinous punks who still cling to the pathetic notion that Nintendo are the only 'real' games maker. I have fond memories of my Nes, Snes and even N64 but those days are gone and Nintendo simply aren't the force they once were. I say they should bail before they 'do a Sega.'

  11. SamusAran551 Rank: Lieutenant-Colonel on 28th Apr 2005

What is your point? Yes, I said I would rather play fun "kiddy" games over a boring "mature" game. So, what are you trying to say? Quit being an annoying and worthless 3rd party. GC is better than Xbox, it has many GOOD exclusives, unlike the Box.

  12. SamusAran551 Rank: Lieutenant-Colonel on 29th Apr 2005

"Animal crossing, doshin the giant, pikmin, star fox adventures - all have animals running around. Also, can you recommend a good rally or football game for the gamecube please?! Face it samus, the GC stinks...and you know it!" - That is what you said a few days ago, just scroll up. you asked me if there were any good rally or sports games. I was saying that I would rather play the real game outside than to play a video game of that sport. You asked me and I answered. And you have given no proof that the GC is bad. All you can say is that it has "kiddy" games. What else? And for your information, F-Zero is tight, and so is Mario Kart.

  13. SamusAran551 Rank: Lieutenant-Colonel on 29th Apr 2005

TOMLEECEE answer me this question!!!! ONE YOU HAVE FAILED TO ANSWER. The good exclusive games for the Xbox...the Xbox has almost NONE. Explain why I or anyone should buy one. This is what seperates the 3 systems. The Xbox is good, but has failed miserabely when it comes to giving me good games.

  14. coolkatie23 on 29th Apr 2005

THE GAME CUBE IS GREAT!!!! i can't really play any other game system because i am female and we just don't have the talent of playing video games. well my favorite games are Mario kart because i ROCK at that game, and sims bustin out because its hipalicious!! and i love resident evil 4 but i couldn't play it if my life depended on it but its a great game to watch. i completely agree with samus! xbox and ps2 are dumb, and you can say what ever you want about it because i don't care and ill never get on again!!!! buhbye

  15. 182meets2112 Rank: 2nd Lieutenant on 29th Apr 2005

Alright, this is ridiculous. Samus, I completely agree with your points. The games that seem "kiddy", are the only one's that will ever stand the test of time. Donkey Kong is one of the oldest video game characters around, and guess what? HE'S A FUZZY ANIMAL!! Master Chief is already fading after only a few years. Halo 2 was not nearly enough to keep him alive in the long run. He is no James Bond. Halo 2 was not GameCube quality. No one would ever "fall through the bottom of the level during multiplayer"!!! XBOX system quality is too much of a hassle to make it better than the GCN. Leave this guy alone, because he knows what he's talking about.

Nintendo`s last 3 year term is rubbish compared to other companies. Like Sega, they're out of the running - gradually building a dubious rep. They keep gambling & making the SAME stupid mistakes - developing cartridge based technology or having developers flagship outdated games. Nothing innovative or new appears with each premature console. Video gamers & parents are tired of it - all the sales stats reflect this. They also bite the consumers hand EG - Milking the advance for a further 12 months then abandoning their most sucessful unit in favour of the new DS.. All this with the PSP on the horizon?! Crazy business tactics, let alone customer support. All the time now, It`s like throwing good money after bad with them. Either way, doesn't take a genius to work out, more competition = better choice & higher standards. I`d be inclined to agree with fanboys just to shush them but.. some of the stuff they come out with is just bizarre. Why plug a console that`s already out of production everywhere? - Looking forward to the next review: Jaguar console, anyone ?

  18. Cordasum Rank: Staff Sergeant on 3rd May 2005

Samus cut the BS, you know that Xbox is better so stop wasting your time.

  19. Mystery214 on 3rd May 2005

ok..I have something to say for both sides.. DO NOT say that Nintendo GC games are kiddy. A kid would be more likely to buy all of those "Mature" games because it makes them look "cool" or whatever. Adults however, don't care so much about what everyone else thinks and will be completely willing to buy what you call "kiddy". Maybe you should play the games before saying that a game is stupid just because it has more cartoony graphics. Be a man and admit that the Nintendo has a lot of good games. Now that I have spoken for the sake of Nintendo I will now say some things about the Xbox. It does not have too many "must haves". I have found, however, that it has a couple of extremely addicting games. Halo 2, I have found especially addicting. Even so, it gets boring on just campaign mode. The only reason I play it so much is because Xbox Live has made the game one of the best games I have ever played. Now, for some extra comments. DO NOT complain that the NGC does not have enough sports games. Sports games are not made for one system. Sports games go out on every system for the most part. Sports games are not worth your money in my opinion. PLAY THE REAL SPORT! Unless there is something special that you can do in the sports games that makes you feel so good inside, then, there is no reason to be saying that Nintendo has no "GREAT sports games." Halo2 is not a bad game, but neither is Mario Kart DD. That comment of mine reminds me of how you were saying that F-zero and Underground were no reason to say that the NGC has has some good racing games. I really think that you should not complain about racing games too much and I really hope that you are not saying that NASCAR games are good. That would sadden me. As for racing games, I noticed that one of the Xbox fans said that F-zero and Need for Speed were not good. What you failed to mention is that the NGC has Mario Kart DD which happens to be one of my favorite racing games. I have also found that Midnight club 2 and 3 for the PS2 is another good racing game. What ever you do, Xbox fans, do not say that the NGC has no good titles. The Nintendo titles are originals where the xbox has no originals. So, do not make fun of marion or star fox or any other of the great titles. In fact, how about you all start acting like real gamers and accept any video game and admire it. At least, admire the fact that someone made an attempt to make a great video game.. Now, after that being said, I close my statements.

Online IS everything when you recieve updates, cheats, extra levels, game enhancements & play against other opponents. This stuff is just weak, its to easy. If you`re gonna troll, at least know what you`re talking about.

  21. SamusAran551 Rank: Lieutenant-Colonel on 4th May 2005

Thank you, Mystery214. The GC does have good titles, and the Xbox has a few. He is right, Halo is awesome, but besides that, there is no originality in almost all other games for the Box. And GiantE., if you have almost no good games for the Xbox, what good is downloading content? None. The Box is cool, But the GC has the better games overall.

  22. 182meets2112 Rank: 2nd Lieutenant on 4th May 2005

Thank you Mystery. You have addressed everything in a good way, and you have (or at least I hope you have) made everyone involved realize that a lot of what's going on here has been ridiculous.

As for the "online IS everything remark" - cheats? What kind of pathetic gamer are you? Do you have to cheat to get through a game? Video Games aren't that hard, and if they are really that hard for you, maybe you shouldn't be playing with the big boys.

  23. GiantElectric Rank: Major on 7th May 2005

128m 2112, what you spluttering on about, clown? Inserts likewise insult here: ** . Fill in the blanks & then reread my post. After you`re done, find out what extra content & replay value mean. I`m sure I mentioned a few other things besides cheats? Yeppers, I think so.

And Samus, when you work at the gamestore, you actually open your eyes or what?

  24. GiantElectric Rank: Major on 7th May 2005

Think this thread`s fairly conclusive for anyone reading. It supports tomleecees statement- Kindergarden console. Still haven't seen anything factual, just weak heresay.

    Previous comment:

"Online IS everything when you recieve updates, cheats, extra levels, game enhancements & play against other opponents. This stuff is just weak, its to easy. If you`re gonna troll, at least know what you`re talking about."

Updates...if you have to update a game, how good was it in the first place? Game enhancements - not original code. This could make more glitches for your game rather than enhance it, and unless you stored it in added memory, it would fill up space on your hard drive faster than it would the actual disc. Playing against other opponents was actually invented with the idea of multiplayer WAY back before the NES. You can play mutiplayer with your friends, online doesn't eliminate this necessity/pleasure. Now for replay value...ever played RE4? Metroid Prime? SSBM? Any Zelda game? All of these games have awesome replay value WITHOUT HAVING TO GO ONLINE! Each game imposes a CHALLENGE that makes online a luxury only needed by choice. Yes it's fun, but the idea of the gaming console goes back to Home Pong. Does playing at home ring a bell? If you have to add a charge or extra hardware to get the best out of a system, you might as well upgrade your PC and you'll have the power to do your "real world work" at the same time. Online is NOT everything.

  26. GiantElectric Rank: Major on 10th May 2005

"How good was the game in the first place?” As good as the sales dictate. You`re arguing with online progress & the abiltiy to update. Look at the 360`s (supposed) features. Emphasis is either on the chip or online features. As for glitches? Can’t speak for others but I haven’t noticed any on xbox. The extra levels, vehicles, custom maps, weapons or whatever hardly strains the hd or cause conflicts. 8 gigs is more than adequate to keep several albums, 30 current saves & downloadable content with 5 gigs still available. Multiplayer experience `the old fashioned way`? That’s a bunch of intoxicated friends, staggering around, tripping over leads & desperately squinting at some little corner on a 28" plasma. At least 6 players are required for a game to be challenging or effective. Otherwise you’re playing solitaire in no time. Give me 16 players out of a choice of thousands, over 4. Online multiplayer is much quicker/ simpler in my experience. Sure, you can upgrade your pc but Xbox is generally cheaper. One investment & a subscription in Live is not like forking out for new hardware all the time. You don’t get the same problems with incompatibility or drivers on a console. They don’t freeze midgame all the time either.

•I haven’t played any of those titles mentioned cause after the n64, I never looked at Nintendo again. Yeah, Xbox misses out on some great games but for every missing, there’s decent alternatives.

  27. SamusAran551 Rank: Lieutenant-Colonel on 10th May 2005

What??...Sales DO NOT dictate how good a game is. Something can sell like crazy and still be just an ok game. And another game could sell horribly and still be a good game, in my opinion. Second. I do work at a game store. We have given you hard facts. Great games, graphics, etc. The Xbox has almost no good exclusives, therefore, is a worthless system. Add-ons can only go so far in a gaming system.

  28. 182meets2112 Rank: 2nd Lieutenant on 11th May 2005

First of all, the XBOX has only sold well in the US, and that's only because it's American made. I think we pointed this out a long time ago, either here or in another review. Features on the 360 (XBOX2, or whatever name)? Last I heard, this new system would not be backwards compatible with XBOX games, and online features will be shadowed by the Revolution's wireless technology. Another important news break, XBOX won't have the monopoly on the Halo series. PS3 will also have the rights to the next game, and rights to make the other 2. This is the only game the XBOX really has. Back to multiplayer. I have a choice of spending time with my friends, or living in my mother's basement talking to the same type of people who never leave their home...what a choice. Have a video game party at someone's house who has a big screen (they're not that hard to come by), and you'll have a much better time. Plus you'll have more to do when everyone gets tired and just wants to crash and watch movies. One more thing...crashed ship in Halo 2 multiplayer, use a system link with two people. Player one stands next to the crashed ship. Player two gets a tanks and SLOWLY moves into player one, pushing him into the ship. Player one should fall through the bottom of the level. I have have friends who purposely tried these glitches the found online or something. I think we've also covered glitches earlier in this "discussion", but if not, Samus and I have plenty of stories.

  29. TOMLEECEE Rank: Colonel on 12th May 2005

You Nintendo fanboys are pretty pathetic. Your only consistent argument is that some non playable character fell through a floor in Halo!

The GC is pretty much dead in the water right now - go and have a look in your local game shop. One shelf of games with hardly any new releases. The Xbox on the other hand is going strong and has been the PS2's only real rival during this generation.

Face it: GC is on it's last legs, but the good old 'box will continue well into next year, even with the impending release of the 360.

  31. SamusAran551 Rank: Lieutenant-Colonel on 13th May 2005

Okay, first to clarify: I never said anything about falling through a level in Halo 2. And the only time ANY of us "fanboys" said that was when someone asked us about the glitches in Xbox. My answer was more straight forward: It breaks down a lot. As you know, I work at a game store, and I get the most of PS2's and Xbox's returned because of defect. I don't recall seeing a single GC that is defective. Besides that, LEECEE what is your point? You did a great job writing your reviews. Congrats, seriously, good job. But what does that have to do with GC vs Xbox? And one more thing: The 360 is scheduled for the holiday season this year. What does the Xbox have coming out? What does the PS2 have coming out? GC? Almost nothing. Rainbow Six, some sports titles, GTA: SA, Zelda, and that is about it. All three systems are at the end of their life. It isn't just the GC. And you say that the Xbox has "the most recent titles" you're right, but not many of them are good. And most of the "good" ones are also on the PS2...look. The Xbox has almost no good exclusives in comparison to GC. Exclusives to the GC include: Mario, Donkey Kong, Metroid, Zelda, Pikmin, Star Fox, Pokemon, and F-Zero. The Xbox only has a select FEW good exclusives. Halo, Chronicles of Riddick, Conker? Wait...wasn't that on N64? Yeah. Not even a new game. Anyway, the point is: there is no good reasons to own an Xbox. You can say "Look at all the extras and add-ons!" All you want. But as a gamer, I am not looking for "add-ons" I am looking for a huge variety of good quality games.

  32. 182meets2112 Rank: 2nd Lieutenant on 13th May 2005

Okay, all three systems are about dead right now, but GCN has the only game I can think of that could be good - Zelda. Now all three companies are about to release new systems, but XBOX can't efficiently release new games until then. The new XBOX won't be able to play old XBOX games, so from a business standpoint, why buy anything XBOX at all? GCN games will paly on the revolution, so Nintendo has this up on XBOX.

  33. GiantElectric Rank: Major on 14th May 2005

Samus- you’ve been a busy boy contradicting yourself. No... see, sales do dictate how good a game is (generally). If you’re rating something by success (all definition)- it’s not really up to just one person or a minority to decide. Best you can do is rely on the sales figures - most of the time "the audience" get it right. Check out any UNOFFICIAL Xbox forum, look at the user ratings above 7 , look at the amount of exclusives. How many Xbox games you stock exactly "in the store you work at" ? I know its one of the largest/busiest sections for the company I work for. 128- Y`know.. specs for the Xbox 2 haven’t really been properly established. There’s rumors flying all over the place. Doesn’t make much difference, for example; how many old titles do psx2 owners actually play? Feel free to be pedantic and take "the online is everything" comment as literal. I was merely pointing out that online multiplayer on consoles is becoming the standard. To brand it a luxury or whatever`s underestimating its potential.

  34. GiantElectric Rank: Major on 14th May 2005

Ps. I dont get these opinions ? - " xbox has no games" ; "x box has no exclusives". It`s got a catalogue of OVER 3000 games & there`s several exclusives which arent any good/ havent sold. What point are you Nintendo fans trying to make?

  35. TOMLEECEE Rank: Colonel on 16th May 2005

Samus - thanks for the comments on my reviews! On the subject of the Xbox 360 though, I've seen some shots of Perfect Dark Zero and I'm not impressed...Anyone else slightly let down with what they've seen so far? I know it's early days for the 360, but the taster shots are meant to blow us prospective buyers away, right?!

  36. SamusAran551 Rank: Lieutenant-Colonel on 16th May 2005

Oh, man! How many times do I have to spell it out for you?? GC has a bunch of good exclusives (of which I have already named numerous times) that make ME want to keep it. I traded my Xbox in...why? You ask? Because there were no games I liked and that would make me want to keep it. How's that? Every game I liked for Xbox was on PS2 and/or GC. I had no reason to keep it. And, I already have 2 CD players and a DVD player. Making the Xbox's add-ons pointless. READ: My point is this: Xbox has useless games (in my opinion). I see no reason in owning one. A lot of Xbox games that were hyped didn't live up to it. That is why I like my GC. Good games. And to answer your question G.E., there are a lot of games for the Xbox...and I want to know what you are trying to say. Just because there are thousands of Xbox games does not mean that they are good.

  37. SamusAran551 Rank: Lieutenant-Colonel on 16th May 2005

And no, sales do not dictate how good games are. There have been many games that sold like crazy and were horrible or were just pretty decent. And IF sales did dictate quality, then GC can't be doing that bad. In 2003, GC jumped to #2 over XBOX in 2003. So does that mean in 2003 that PS2 was the best, GC was second and Xbox was the worst? If you are saying that sales dictate, than the Xbox can't be that good.

First of all, it's 182, not 128. Please get your muicians right before you go on disrespecting something else. A game CAN sell very well and be an ok game, and another game CAN be ten times greater yet sell horribly. Bandwagon. That's all this is, and it can work effectively. We're trying to get to know that actual game, not what other people are saying. This whole site is based on "consumer reviews". I'm giving the XBOX a small review right here -> it sucks. I played it, and I'm not impressed. I read a couple articles from gamespot, too. 360 has nice specs, but nothing really innovative in the gaming world. Graphics are realistic enough as it is. The PS3 will be up to XBOX standards in the next-gen, but they'll also bring the legacy of all PS games with it. Nintendo will do the same, but they have the best approach - IMPROVING THE GAMING EXPERIENCE. 306 will be online...nice, but the new Nintendo will have built in wi-fi. This is the future, XBOX is going to stall their progress by trying to sell first. All new controllers will probably be wireless, all because Microsoft released this information 6 months before sales begin. Sony and Nintendo have time to make up the few things it might have, but read even more into the article. What is new about the 360? Besides a few ordinary upgrades, what? Nothing. Wireless controllers, new design, nicer color, but Nintendo has been taking steps to beat this out with the DS. Nintendo knows interactivity better. Even if the DS loses the longterm battle, they still released the touch screen, which will be another feature of all electronics fairly soon. "INTERACTIVITY. BETTER GAMING EXPERIENCE." For some reason, your friends at XBOX don't see this. XBOX is losing everything they had good for them. Better graphics - for a time, and glitchy at best - then Halo and Halo 2. in order to play these games, XBOX owners are going to have to keep their old system, and these games are pretty good, but is keeping this gigantic system around really worth the trouble? Even if they release a lighter XBOX, you won't get the whole cost covered by trading it in. With backwards compatibility, gamers can trade in their old systems for the new one, without losing any gaming experience. And before it comes up, this was also a Nintndo idea. Game Boy, to GBC, to GBA, to DS w/ Advance port. Invest money where it will actually give you a return.

Look, I think it’s very important that you both get down to the store now and buy xbox crystals, okay ? You know it’s the right thing to do, its on your consciences, it has to be done. Trade in those Nintendo’s along with banjo kazooi & when you get home, you’ll both experience the feel good factor. People make mistakes samus- don’t carry on torturing yourself, we’re only human. A second trade-in`s one step away. 182- I apologise for getting blinks name wrong.. erm.. And likewise with the 1976 Rush album (if I did).

Tomleecee, I dont like the design of the new 360.Looks like an apple product (except cheaper & nastier). Cant really get an idea from the leaked pics yet though. Also, looks like it has ports for memory cards & that the drive will be sold seperately (expensive bit of kit). Remember just how much they hyped the Xbox 1 up- integrated custom sound in every game, fastest processor on the market.. etc.. One thing Xbox did manage to do: struggle through all the MS badmouthing & adversity. They never had the luxury of history, producing GB or snes but.. damn they really beat them to a pulp in the end. They really wiped that purple box of tricks on their asses!

Trading in my Nintendo hardware and software would give me a one-way ticket to Hell. Thanks, but I've made the right decision.

You know you want it. See, you guys always prattle on about the fact it has the most exclusives over rival consoles .. Therefore; more choice dictates it must be the best .. nah.. If the public had bought more of the things, if Nintendo had included a hd & incorporated online gaming.. Then.. maybe (just maybe) it would have been a bit innovative. Buying one now`s like investing in dodo burgers - which is why, I totally disagree with this review. It is NOT a better console than xbox.

  43. TOMLEECEE Rank: Colonel on 19th May 2005

GiantElectric - I totally agree with you comment, Microsoft had no history whatsoever in the games console market, yet they have managed to practically destroy any credibility Nintendo salvaged from the N64. Fair enough, the PS2 is the true winner this generation, but second place has well and truly gone to Microsoft and anyone who denies that must be a) an idiot; b) living in a cave or c) a Nintendo marketing manager. The Revolution looks pretty tasty, but Nintendo have been forced to get their act together or face yet another generation in the wilderness...

Online play is the ONLY innovation on the XBOX. Nintendo has a more user friendly controller, smaller size with more power per gram, smaller discs, bongos for Donkey Konga...not innovative, right? You just want to call yourself a big boy by owning the system that has Halo, an M rated game. Nintendo will always be more innovative than the XBOX. Read the leaking articles, read an official zrticle on the 360. NOTHING IS NEW ON IT. Nintendo is already looking into pressure sensitivity buttons for it's next system. There's an innovation that is absent on the 360.

Oh, man. I go away from my computer for a couple days, and there are already 10 more comments on my GC review...HA! It made me laugh. Anyway, I don't want to trade in my GC. I like it. Actually, I love it! But one thing I will miss is Star Wars Battlefront II. Besides that, I don't have a reason to re-purchase an Xbox. I don't live in a cave and I am not an idiot. I am also not working for Nintendo. But wait. I still favor the GC. And you can't say I am a fanboy just yet. I joined the video game craze in the middle years of N64. I didn't own an SNES or a NES. I chose my favorite, and I gave the others a chance. The PS2 overwhelmed me with the selection, and the Xbox impressed me with graphics and Halo. The GC has good quality titles like Zelda, Mario, Donkey Kong, Metroid, Star Fox, and Kirby. Maybe most are "kiddy." I don't care. I can still enjoy them. And by next year, the Xbox 360 will be outdated. PS3 and the "Revolution" are going to be so advanced. AND...the PS3 will be a PS One, PS2 and PS3 all in one package with better graphics than Xbox 360 and will most likely have at least Halo and Halo 2. The "Revolution" will also be graphically superior to the 360 and will have backwards compatiblity. When everything is said and done, I feel the Xbox will be 3rd out of 3. I know which systems I am investing in. If you guys wanna get a 360, go for it. I bet it will be cool. I just think that Nintendo and Sony will have Microsoft beat this next generation.

Let’s not get petty but that controller, omg. Looks like some pre-school thing you hammer plastic shapes into! How can you use that? This is something produced by a company, desperately trying to shake any juvenile image - look at it! Got to be the ugliest hardware ever produced. That thing’s supposed to be ergonomic? It’s got flippin` great angles all over it! Original Xbox controllers were pretty bad until reissued... but that thing easily fails in comparison, no contest. Just hope Logic 3 issues adapters for GC so you can use rival controllers & minimize any r.s.i fatigue. If Nintendo had their way, thousands of kids would be running around like grotesque claw handed freaks!

  48. 182meets2112 Rank: 2nd Lieutenant on 23rd May 2005

What are you talking about? Have you ever taken time to use a nintendo controller? The worst one is the N64 controller (because of three appendeges), but the GCN controller should be used on all systems. The A button is used frequently, therefore it should be the largest, and you never need to think when needing to use the others, because they all have unique characteristics that dictate their use in games. yoiu neve have to fumble around with an atrocious XBOX controller to understand the controls of a Nintendo game because Nintendo is more practical. PS2 is okay, but the uniformity between all buttons makes can make button designation just as random as the XBOX's. The ONLY drawback to the GCN controller is the Z button, which is a bit difficult to use, but given a little time, one gets used to it. Other than that I don't know what you're talking about.

  49. SamusAran551 Rank: Lieutenant-Colonel on 24th May 2005

Anyway...did you guys hear? The "Revolution" will be backwards compatible with the GC AND will be able to download NES, SNES, and N64 games! How cool is that? The "Revolution" will be 5 systems in one!! Anyway. It will be Wi-Fi and play DVD's. Also, Nintendo is getting their act together by getting more 3rd party support next generation. So, I think once again, that I will like the Nintendo best, PS3 second, and Xbox a dead last. I dunno, I will have to see everything play out first, but so far Sony and Nintendo are lookin' the best.

Looking at the Xbox 2 promotions now - I’d be stupid to disagree. The focus has now drifted even further away from games. The 360`s probably doomed to failure as a games console. Especially if it costs around the same as pc with all its applications. All of the advertised features, apart from playing music or movies, are buggy` as hell on PC with broadband. Dread to think what they’re like on a console. No hd tv and Live subscribers don’t yet cover 50% of Xbox owners either. A bit too gimmicky for me.
I think Sony will win the next one though. I`ll be wondering- if there’s so much emphasis on the Revolutions backwards compatibility & its retro emulator - just how good will current games be? Also, will the consoles technical performance somehow be compromised in comparison with rivals?

  51. TOMLEECEE Rank: Colonel on 25th May 2005

Xbox 360 looks like a stinker, PS3 will rule the universe, Revolution looks cool (and is the machine I am most looking forward to), but will ultimatley be another niche console. As for the comments on the N64 pad - are you insane? That 3 pronged pad rocked! Especially with first person shooters.

  52. GiantElectric Rank: Major on 25th May 2005

182mRush - where did you hear/read halo 3 and followups would be released exclusively for ps3 ? Surely Microsoft own Bungies rights ? Please provide a link for that info.

More snippets of news: Officially from microsoft. "The company also announced Xbox 360 WILL be backward-compatible with top-selling Xbox games. In addition, more than 160 games are in development for Xbox 360, with 25 to 40 new games slated for release this calendar year". If above refers to specific titles or the whole range, who knows? This may just change the running.

  54. SamusAran551 Rank: Lieutenant-Colonel on 27th May 2005

Also announced by Sony: The PS3 will have 350 times more processing power than the PS2 and double the power of an Xbox 360. So why get a 360 when you can get a more powerful PS3 by waiting 6 months?

  55. GiantElectric Rank: Major on 27th May 2005

Apparently, Sony are having trouble with stability running 4 processors. Their finished product might not be as powerful as stated. Specs don’t make a whole heap of difference. Could go either way. The Dreamcast was technically superior & had more potential than ps2. People opted for the latter because of market hype & trouble with Dc`s online support.. Nintendo was easier to develop for over the ps2(lower polygons, OpenGL coding)..again, look what happened. Now backward compatibilities been confirmed by “bill god himself”, having a back catalogue of software might influence decisions... Makes little difference to me though, I’ll have the choice out of the 2 anyway. (Don’t think I’ll be going for Nintendo somehow). I reckon History’s going to repeat. In a years time, perhaps this thread will still be here, we’ll see.

The cool thing about the Revolution though, is that it can play NES, SNES, N64, and GC games. So even IF the Revolution does suck, you still have 4 great systems to play from in one. I am sure though, that the Revolution will be awesome. You can completely customize the controller to whatever you want. There will be more 3rd party support, and the Revolution will be an online based system. You guys can buy whatever you want, but I am getting a Revolution and a PS3. I think I will be quite happy without the Xbox 360. That's just me though.

I am 99% sure the PS3 will beat the Xbox 360. Did you guys see the graphics on Killzone 2? Amazing. And that can only be the beginning...

  58. TOMLEECEE Rank: Colonel on 8th Jun 2005

There was no real time footage of PS3 games shown at E3 Samus. Most of the stuff was either video or prototype footage using modified PS2 technology. However, I think everyone agrees that the PS3 and Revolution are going to kick the 360 into touch.

  59. SamusAran551 Rank: Lieutenant-Colonel on 9th Jun 2005

So does that mean that the Killzone 2 movie I saw was not the true PS3? Are you sure...?
