You can get jewellery made specially to meet your own requirements. I wanted some elasticated bracelets that were big enough to keep my shirt sleeves up from getting caught in my wheelchair wheels. Great friendly, fast, personal service. You can order online or send a cheque.
A bracelet with a clasp got caught in a jumper and came off, so I had to send it back for repair, rather than just taking it to somewhere local, but it was fixed for free and sent back quickly.
Gem Kist is a one-woman-band and she specializes in gemstone bead and lampwork bead jewellery. After seeing an advert in a Scottish paper I contacted her by e-mail to ask for some bracelets for my daughters' Christmas presents. We discussed colours and within a week she sent me photos of possible bracelets she had made. I fell for three of them and one for myself! Now, several months on I have gone back to her for matching necklaces for my daughters as they all just loved their Christmas presents. She didn't have any matching lampwork beads in stock, but managed to get some more (I think from USA) and sent me more photos. I am just waiting for them to be sent on to me once another necklace and bracelet set in fluorite have been made for me. Although it all takes longer than simply going into a shop and buying something, it's brilliant being able to ask for specific stones to be used and seeing what she comes up with.
