Accounts ordered by date and battle.
Inidividual battles/issues talked through by real people from each side.
Makes you realise how similiar both sides really were.
Easy to read.
Max Arthur's Forgotten Voices of the Great War is an extremely moving, enlightening book. Yes, detailed are the stories of Christmas time truce but the extra-ordinary way in which the Germans and Allied troops were engaged in battle and moments of friendship also shines through.
A very, at times, harrowing read but one that you cannot ignore. Romanticism and myth busting accounts from people of each side - in war and domestic roles.
Well contexted with not too much history or opinion thrown in.
