Good Points

Accuracy, solid feel, price, one pump, features....

Bad Points

Hmmm, I don't know, it was kind of greasy when I got it and when shooting for the first few times, cleaned it after the first session and all is well now. Hard trigger.

General Comments

I just got this Beeman GH500 gun tonight and opened it up and went downstairs to site it in right away. The first thing I noticed is that it's heavy. I have a crossman 10 pumper and it feels cheap in comparison, although to be fair, it's ~ 15 years old. Wasn't too sure about the break barrel thing being too accurate since I've never owned a one before, but let me tell you, at 50-60 feet I can hit a dime fairly consistently. I have to keep moving around on the wood I'm shooting into or I'll punch right through it in 5 or 6 shots as I'm frequently hitting previous pellet holes. My Crossman (again, roughly 15 yrs. old) won't do this. Hurray for the rifled barrel. :) The pumping action is fairly easy since you have the whole length of the barrel to use as a lever, I'd say an 8 or 10 year old could do it pretty easily, I'm not a big guy and I could do it with one finger... As for the power, well if you were shooting small varmits (say squirells off a bird feeder, hint hint) at 30 yards, well I wouldn't want to be one of those varmits.

The scope is a pretty quality job for an air rifle. The caps on the adjustment settings are metal, not plastic. The adjustments have good detent too them and make a fairly audible click when moved. The front ring is for the zoom and the back (business end of the gun) is your focus. The focus ring is marked for yardage so you can adjust it before you even bring the gun up to your shoulder. The zoom is marked for magnification. The cross hairs are thick on the ends and thin where they cross. The scope seems to gather light fairly well also. They had a model 1783 (I think that's it) there too, this scope is the main reason I spent the extra $5, the extra 50 fps didn't hurt either.

The only thing "wrong" with it, if you could call it a fault, is that it was fairly greasy when new and shooting it brought out more grease and oil. After 25-30 shots I went upstairs and washed my hands. Now that I've cleaned it (and me) off, most of the oil seems to be out and it seems to shoot fairly clean now. Don't really know if that's a fault or not, could be a positive thing, at least you know that if you buy one, even if it's been sitting on a shelf somewhere for 2 years it sure ain't corroded!!! And it does have a hard trigger, I squeeze it about half way then aim and fire. Annoying, but I can deal.

Overall, if you're looking to get the cheapest possible gun to plink in your backyard, this isn't it. If you've already HAD the cheapest types of guns and want to move up a little but still don't want to pay ~$200 for an AIR RIFLE this is a perfect gun. It would also be a perfect SECOND gun for a child. I'm 36, this feeds my inner child, LOL. :)

How can you get a Beeman GH500 scope to HOLD A ZERO? I can't, no matter what, and I've been through 3 different scopes. Please help ASAP.

Hey man i was just wondering if the Beeman GH500 is a gun which is under 826ft/sec so the owner will not need a license to own it?
