ERR 99
General Comments
I bought my 300D almost exactly a year ago and have taken more than 10,000 pictures with it, since. I love my camera, but a couple of weeks ago, I started getting ERR 99 while using my 18-55mm "kit" lens.
Unsatisfied with the information about this error that I found on the 'net, I did my own research, and wrote an article summarizing some of the possible causes and resolutions of the error.
I ended up taking the camera to my local Canon service center, 1 day before my warranty ran out! I should get it back, repaired, in a week, and will update the article with any new info I learn.

Hi .. thanks, some good information you've got there... I have the 300D and have taken close on 9000 images. I've had the err99 two or three times before. This occured around my 2000 and 3000 image range and have not had it for ages. The only thing I did to fix this was switch off, remove lens, put lens back on and power on. This always fixed it so it could have just been my contacts dirty or not not making proper contact.
I only own Canon lenses if thats any help.
Good luck with your investigation and prognosis, hopefully Canon sort it out for you :-)
