Good Points

Excellent handling (with battery pack BG-E1), excellent photos, no shutter lag, compatible with all canon EF lenses.

Bad Points

No variable flash output control (used for daylight fill)

General Comments

I have owned the Canon EOS 300D for a while now. The various white balance and ISO settings have combined to make a very accurate and versatile camera (as well as the exposure lock button). The battery grip gives a much better feel to the camera (I have large hands) as well as doubling the battery life (2 batteries). I use 1 GB SD disks, so I can shoot RAW all day long or get around 600+ photos in Fine Medium format (more than enough for great 7 x 5 prints).

My only complaint with this camera is the lack of a variable output inbuilt flash unit. I use daylight fill for almost all of my outdoor photography and find the need to mount a separate flash unit ruins the balance of the camera and the whole outfit begins to be "intrusive" when poked in someone's face.

I have 4 legacy Canon EF lenses which all work on this body.

Note: I was torn between the Canon 10D and this camera but could not justify double the cost to get a stronger camera with a variable output inbuilt flash unit (especially as the half life of digital equipment is just 18 months [eg Canon 10D now replaced with the Canon 20D]- unlike film cameras which could continue to be used for decades without compromising image quality).

As regards lack of flash exposure compensation on the 300d, I bought a software update off the Internet for about £15, which transferred some of the 10d's custum functions, which include flash compensation and mirror lock-up.
    An excellent buy!
