Green Day are back and better than ever with American Idiot. When I first bought the CD I wasn't sure what to expect. Now it's pretty much living in my CD player at the moment.
The title track features Green Day's vintage punk sound and it will definitly please the fans of their earlier albums, in particular 'Dookie'. The following track is probally the highlight of this great album has to be 'Jesus of Suburbia'. Despite the fact it is five songs and lasts for over nine minutes, it dosen't have a dull moment. Any one who can achieve that deserves plenty of praise.
From there, the album continues with its theme of politics in songs such as 'Boulevard Of Broken Dreams'. Green Day haven't forgotten their roots though, with 'St Jimmy' and 'She's a Rebel' sure to please all 'Dookie' fans.
The only slightly disappointing thing about 'American Idiot' is the second nine minute long song 'Homecoming'. It is very much overshadowed by 'Jesus of Suburbia' because it lacks the intensity and isn't as well written. But it is still worth listening to.
'American Idiot' is a brillantly-written album and unless your name is George W Bush you will enjoy this album many times. It is a must-have for fans of the punk rock genre.
